Nice job! What a cool first car! My first car was an '86 Chevy Celebrity; what I would have done to cruise around in an S-class Mercedes Benz. Enjoy!!!

Congrats!
The idle speed adjustment screw is located between the IP, and engine block. It's a flat screw driver head, with a lock nut at the bottom.

Biggest day in a young man's life is the day he gets his license!!!! {the "other" is just a close second}
![]() Congrats on the license and the new car. Something to remember, and I told my two older kids this when they started driving: All you know how to do right now is "steer". You will learn how to "drive" as time goes by and you get used to seeing the "big picture". Go into it humbly, with that in mind, and resist the inevitable speed urges. They will surely come...... Good luck!!

Thanks! I'll remember that! I did see that screw, and I 'figured' that was it... I'll have to adjust it in the morning... it's supposed to be at 750RPM? It's at about 600-650 right now... so I'll adjust that... What about the instrument cluster light? it's not working on mine
So I have to use a flashlight at night ( check out Surefire flashlights... THEY ARE AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [ surefire.com] ) Anyways, I'm not sure how soon I'll be able to put pics up... hopefully by the end of the week, although I'll have to figure out a place to host them

You are right about the surefire. My friend Nick from Germany gave me one as a gift. It is really bright and will blind you if you look at. I think they are used by the FBI. Anyway congrats on the new car

The dash lights are usually the reostat (think I spelled that right) dimmer. It malfunctions and screws up the lights.

Nice goin on passing the test, Barike. And all the best with your new car. It sounds like you were born with a wrench in your hand.

I'll look into that then, I'm down here at my GF's parents place for the next week... That's one reason I won't really be able to post pictures... I'll have to see what happens and all... so we'll see
In the morning I'll have to speed up the idle on the engine... what was that about a lock nut for the idle adjust? Then She'll (my car ) be in a little better shape (I'm working on a name ) One of the main issues... the A/C compressor doesn't work... where is it located? And would a single missing bolt disable it? He (The guy I got it from) said that there was 1 bolt missing... so I'll look at it more in the morning... but Yeah, I don't have a repair manual yet, I'll be getting one as soon as I can, but it'll be a couple weeks probably, since I don't think there would be one in the sleepy little town I'm at... I do need to get a couple sets of fuel filters though... There are a couple little pieces of something I saw in the secondary fuel filter (Whatever you call that clear one by the engine)... So I figure I need to get some stuff to really be able to take care of her...

How hard is it to get 'into' the doors? The driver side rear window doesn't work, it has to be taped shut... He said it 'might be off the rails'... So I wanted to get in and look at it... When I was working in the 'auto shop' I was doing mostly paint and body... not nearly as much interior work as I'd have liked though...

On the window not working, can you hear the motor turning? If so, this is a common failure on a 126. https://www.***************/search/product.aspx?sid=3ynyar3nkm5zlvmg2rk1byak&makeid=800016@Mercedes&modelid=1194027@300SD%20&year=1983&cid=window@window&gid=1581@Window%20Regulator%20Bushing/Repair%20Kit
A little tricky to get to, nothing serious. Depending on what parts you need, if you can wait and order on line, you should be able to find what you need. Don't expect the local auto parts store to have much for multi decade old Mercedes! Above there is a buy parts button, start there. I have not done motor mounts, and need to, but have heard if the bolts are removed easily, not too difficult.

Well, it looks like I have to get a new switch first... the one for that window is DEFINITELY not working at all... so after that I'll check the window motor...
It seems that I have to change out my transmission fluid... I checked it and it's REALLY low... like hardly to the end of the dipstick... so I'm going into town to get stuff to change the oil and tranny fluid... that is IF I can find a place that the stuff I need... I think I'll go ahead and name her "Cacela"...

Your current idle is at a normal level. The more likely culprit is the motor mounts; the old rubber would be worn out by now.
Is the window rolled up all the way? Window regulator failures are very common with these cars. AC compressor is on the front of the engine on the drivers side, way down low. I never heard of a bolt causing a non-functional AC. This part can be very, very costly to fix. I spent almost $1,000 getting my AC functional last Spring. The small one is the primary fuel filter.

Well, how hard is it to replace the motor mounts once I get them? I'm willing to do it... and if I have instructions... I could do it myself... if I had the tools needed for the job at least
The window has to be taped shut... otherwise it'll slip down into an open position... I'll probably look into it more tomorrow... I'll have to see how much 'maintenance' I get around to... I'll probably drive into town, and check the auto parts stores to see what they have available for her... (Still trying to come up with a name... I'm thinking of Cacela, but I don't want to make it official yet ) Anyways, it's like late... so I'll be going to bed in the next while... (I'm just trying to figure out what job to try for when I get back to OKC... oh well...)
