I have a specific question that isn't essential, but has been bugging me since I bought the car and I've been dying to solve it. The reciept from the dealer lists cruise control as standard, but I get into the car and see no cruise control. Unfourtunately I only noticed this about a week after I bought the car, so I didn't get to ask him about it. I popped the hood and saw the amplifier AND actuator (electronic). It looks like the car maybe have been rear-ended and then pushed into the car in front of it, as evidenced by the bumpers. My only theory was that maybe in that accident, the cruise switch was maybe broken off and never replaced. Any other ideas?

Just get yourself an aftermarket cruise, The one I have works good. Some folks like the factory unit, I could never keep it going

Well, I recieved the ingoing transmission last night and worked on it all night trying to get the car back on the road. Turns out my slave cylinder and the exhaust bracket don't fit. The slave cylinder happened to be on the transmission when I got it, but I don't know if it works. Everything else went well.

If you are replacing the newer alloy transmission with the steel-case, yeah, the slave cylicers are different ( luckily cheaper). I suspect they bolt up, but the threads on the pipe are different.

You should be able to hook up all the clutch hydraulics without installing the slave and see if it works. There are not two studs on the back of the tranny for the exhaust bracket? What did the replacement tranny come out of?

I wonder if you can swap all the hydraulics over from the alloy transmission and keep the slave cylinder you have (later style) that is working...?

They other slave cylinder doesn't look likes it bolts up. It has two bolts top and bottom but are off to the side, where as the one the transmission came with has two top and bottom, but are centered. And the exhaust bracket off of the newer transmission has two holes, but are too far apart and it doesn't fit on the studs.

Drill some new holes in the bellhousing, maybe? Do the diameters look the same? The master cyl never changed, so if the slave cyl internals are the same volume, the throw should be the same and it should work.

I have one of each style slaves in the shop and it appears that each will except the same male hydraulic fitting.

The throw out bearing of early and late style trannys are also different. Hard to see the difference but one has a slightly higher shoulder

Yeah, I already knew about the throwout bearing and had the sit there for a while trying to figure out if the throwout bearing was specific to the clutch and flywheel nonsense, or the transmission. Figured it was the transmission, but I can't even tell if it works.

Those are the two different slave cylinders. My original transmission came with the second, gold one. Luckily they don't look expensive, so worst comes to worst, I buy a new one.

If you need a early style throwout bearing I have a NOS one. I got it with my clutch kit awhile back but it would not work properly with the later style tranny. 20 bucks and its yours.

No thanks, the transmission came with one. And the exhaust bracket does not fit. the holes on the newer model one that I have are too far apart, farther than the studs on the older transmission.

How important is the exhaust hanger anyway? Can I drive without it?

I wouldn't drive without the hanger bracket or at least something solid holding the exhaust there. There's only rubber hangers from there on back and when they get old.....
