Those press into the ends of what you should already have. Get an extra- one will squirt away from you.

Are you SURE the crossshaft in the mechanism in the hole does not wobble side to side when you do the 2-3 shift? That sounds like most of your problem, not these so much

I think it does wobble side to side. The whole shifter mechanism feels "crunchy"

I don't remember now. The ones at the top of that page are the ones you are talking about. The ones at the bottom go on the transmission side and are bigger and black

Like I said earlier when you posted the EPC shot, you need the tophat bushing and the other nylon one on the other side that gets all the slop out of the mechanism. You can get the tophat on fastlane, don't think you can get the other, but perhaps you will be lucky or you can make something. This isn't rocket science- just plastic bushings to take up the slop.

I'll look at the shifter today. I wish there were pics of a rebuild or something since I do not understand. I can look at the EPC later

Do some searching . A couple of years ago I think there was a discussion and I posted a shot from the Haynes manual that has a good explanation.

^^ OK here's that discussion. There's Haynes manual scan in there that may help.

240D standard shift problem

I was going to remove the fuel level sender but I need to remove the false wall in the trunk. I also need some pb-blaster or something of the sorts. That way I can use channel locks and not have to buy a 42mm socket. I also discovered that I really do need to remove the rear seats and clean out behind/under them so I can find the third seatbelt. The armrest foam separated from the metal portion.

I did pick up a gallon of purple cleaner to clean the engine compartment and I need some more simple green so I can clean the Tex.

On the W123 sedans, you can reach the tank sender by pulling the plastic first-aid bin from the rear shelf.

I have always been able to remove the tank sender on a W123 with channel locks through the first aid kit hole.

I am going to go to go through the trunk. 30 years of not being removed might prove to be difficult to remove.

The fuel sender is pretty tall.
If you get it loose through the trunk, you stil need to pull the first-aid bin to get the sender out.
