Now I see it posted back on craigslist with fresh paint and a few small cosmetic items fixed for $5800. Now, I have no problem with someone making a buck but he is misrepresenting the true mileage (claims 172k when I told him it was really 230K but gave him a spare diesel odometer since the one I had in it was geared for a gasser), and making a lot of otherwise completely false statements about the car which I know to be untrue (I have never run it on synthetic oil and he has no idea how often the previous owner before me changed the oil since I didn't know). This kind of garbage is what makes me hate dealing with people on craigslist. The really sad thing is this guy has several cars posted a month which I am assuming are just as misrepresented. Needless to say buyer beware. If anyone is actually interested I can give you a better idea of the real condition of the car.

gray 87 300d $5800.
If hes floating the title it may leave you liable if the car is in a crash. I think there is some paperwork you can file saying you sold the car, might be a good thing to do now that you have a window into his honesty

Glue plugs? Boy that rings the bells. I looked at a 1985 300SD last fall from a guy of Indian descent in Alpharetta and the ad said that it had new glue plugs. He was asking $4700. Gorgeous car from the pictures...anyways, got there and the car had already been warmed up, even after I distinctly told him we wanted to see it cold. Walked up to it and bent over to look under and it had been creamed on the driver side at some point. The underside looked like play doh. Hmmm...
Now my husband is a mechanic and has worked on many a Mercedes so he sees things that the uneducated would never notice. He saw ALOT. First thing he saw was that the "glue" plugs had never been touched. The brake warning light was disconnected, the whole dash on the driver side was pushed over about a half inch, the driver seat back bracket was broken, it smoked from the air cleaner breather hose, and on and on and on. We politely decline the sell and he has the nerve to tell us that his cousin has one for sell, and he's just around the corner. Imagine that.

thanks

You guys are awesome. Yeah I did forget to take the tag off when I sold the car (first time I've sold a car in GA, I'm used to CA where you don't), but I did cancel them with the tag office day I sold it. I'll have to look into the liability issues. He didn't sign the title when I gave it to him so you guys are probably dead on that he is floating it. I'm really starting to regret selling both the mercedes but I had to do it since I can only take 2 cars with when I move and my new commute is going to be pretty long (and there is no way I'm selling my 66 skylark). At least I can pick up a nice 124 wagon for the wife when I get there.

On a side note I didn't realize I could do anything other than flag the add. So craigslist actually responds to these sorts of things?
Thanks

Sounds about right, I see his cars parked around East cobb/Roswell all the time. I honestly couldn't tell what nationality the guy was (middle eastern?)The pics of my old car looked like the engine hadn't touched been touched since he bought it. So the "glue plugs" were probably old. He actually tried to talk me down because I had the EGR and ARV disconnected and said it needed to be fixed. The lines are still capped off in the pics.

This thread is a prime reason why shop forum is the best site for Mercedes. Rooting out scam artists like this would never be done on other sites, and I hope the powers that be read this thread and understand how we as a community work together.

X2

It is a shame there isn't an equivalent community over here. Peach Parts / Mercedes shop is pretty unique.

Write an Ad with a very similar subject to inform buyers of what he's doing and post it. Someone did that in the services section about a body shop that was taking people for a ride and I caught it just in time.

Yup....struck again!!

RE, RE: 1987 MERCEDES BENZ 300 D TURBO DIESEL - $6400 (Raciestville)

This piece of **** is a SCAMMER!!! I sold this guy this EXACT same car (which I loved dearly) last month. I live in TN and even drove to Dalton to meet him and show him the car where he instantly low-balled me! I still ended up selling him the car for much lower than I wanted becuase he claimed the car was for his son and was going to fix it up to give to him. What a lying sack of ****!!!

Anyone who KNOWS these cars knows this car DOES NOT have a 2.5L 5cyl motor, stupid f#ck!

*"NEW GLUE PLUGS"......First of all you damn dumb Middle Eastern ass or whatever you are, they are GLOW PLUGS, get it GLOW GLOW GLOW!!! NOT GLUE Plugs!

Ran his phone number....looks like he's selling a BMW as well:
