I've got a client/friend who is looking to purchase a 190D w201. He came to me because of my familiarity with Mercedes and diesels but I've never looked into the 190. Can someone outline the pros and cons of this vehicle for me? What should I be looking out for? Any known years to stay away from? How about US vs Euro versions, anything better than the other? I tried to suggest the 300D but he said he was under the impression the 190 got much better mileage and wouldn't rust as badly. Is this true? Is that a good enough reason to choose the w201 over the w123?

And, if anyone wants to sell one, I've got a buyer who's looking for a "nice" low mileage one, not a beater, rust free.
