Your low-side pressure appears correct, per chart below. You might be looking at a T-P chart for the refrigerant itself. The fluid in the condenser runs much hotter than the ambient temperature. The chart below is probably for a typical condenser, and ours aren't ideal for R-134A so might run higher pressure. I ran Duracool in my 85 300D and worked great until the R4 compressor seized (common). I wouldn't want to run higher than 250 psi, especially with an R4 compressor. I converted my 2002 T&C minivan to Duracool a few weeks ago after the compressor failed (flushed & used mineral oil). The low side runs 20-30 psi and high side 120-200 psi and cools OK. Both gages read ~80 psi when off. Your gage kit looks like my Harbor Freight one. I need to wiggle the connectors a bit to get them to snap on the port, so you might not have fooled with it enough.

Good idea to keep the "blue saucer". I understand it is mainly a vacuum amplifier, so the VCV itself doesn't have to directly supply the modulator. It also brings the turbo boost into the tranny equation, which seems good. Indeed, I pulled the setup to put on my 84 300D, but they asked $50 at the counter so I left it. However, if it truly does smooth shifts, that would be bad for tranny life (worn clutch plates). My shifts are noticeable (good). I plugged off the ARV port on the turbo, and removed most of the emissions controls, as recommended here.

Good you don't have the CA 85 model. Mine was. The air filter is $45 special order, but it is good that it doesn't shake like the engine mounted ones. I put in 1983 engine and regular filter in the car after mine failed.

The fuse-looking thing near your battery terminals is an electrical connector. I recall it goes to the temperature sensor near the thermostat housing, which I think is for the dash gage. My 85 engine had another temp sensor on the driver's side of the block, but the 83 engine doesn't have that sensor. I think that one is part of the emissions controls. Both my 84 & 85 engines have the rack position sensor on the injector pump, as I recall, but the 83 doesn't. I vaguely recall that is for the emissions control too.

BillGrissom, you are right. I was looking at the P/T for R12 instead of 134A. Would like it to cool better than 53F vent temp. Add more 134?

So I'm a year late to the party, but did you ever name the car? We have never "named" cars, per se, but in my mind I sometimes refer to our Corolla as "The Old Soldier" after the character in Charles Dickens' David Copperfield because it never gives up, even after I learned to drive in it and it got hit twice (including one frame-bender) .

No did not name her, in keeping with tradition. AC is acceptably cool after the added charge which is nice.

Especially with the heat we have had here in CT the past week.....LUCKY. The coolness of my cabin is related to the speed I travel (for now)

Sounds like you need to "Sandenize" your 'Benz.

My R4 is working ok with 134A. If it ever craps out I may consider your brackets. I have a few Sanden SD508's from 91-92 VW Jetta diesels. Will they work with your bracket?

My odometer decided to stop. I did this same fix to my first Mercedes (83 300D) back in 2006.

Pics of tools used to punch out the shaft and knurl it so it bites the pot metal gear, punching it back in. Pics not in any kind of order.

As long as the head is not the long one found on the earlier VW's, it should work fine. You will need the rear port "K" head...Rich
