Tomorrow I am planning to make the bracket to hold the oil cooler hoses. I am going to make it EXACTLY like Charmalu suggested, as that seems to be the best/easiest way......Rich

Want list for the first 10

Going back through my list of people that have expressed an interest in one of the first 10, I have only 9 on the list (thought I had all 10 spoken for).
This is the list:
rollguy- 3
cupflya-1
charmalu-1
secondaries-1
ckamila-1
benzman-1
deliveryvalve-1

If you asked for one previously and don't see your name on the list, please refresh my memory. Thanks, Rich

You've been busy - looking good.

I'll be interested to see how it works under load and how it cools.

I have a blown R4 on my 617 in my 300sd, if the Sanden is the way to go I would love to get the coldest strongest system possible, FL is getting hot!

Testing started today!

I got the blower to work by replacing the CCU with one from a 123. I know it is not the correct one, but it does make the blower work while I take apart the 126 unit and solder the bad joints. I had to do something this morning before my appointment at the A/C shop to get the vac and charge done. I got there at 2:00, and Chris hooked up the machine and did the vac and charge:

After it was all done, he checked for leaks. BUMMER, he found a tiny leak in one of the welds on the hose fitting he made last week. He had to recover the 2.4 pounds of 134A, and I removed the hose so he could repair it. He had to replace the entire section of hose, and re-weld the offending fitting. After mounting the hose, vac and charge, the A/C is blowing cold with the Sanden compressor! I am sure the 123 CCU is different, as I only have air (albeit cold!) coming out the defroster vents, and the footwell. I am now ready to test it for a week or so (and give the 300CD a rest) before making the production parts. The plates should be done by Wednesday, so I will start welding them on Friday if everything tests good- Hooray!

Hooray, indeed! Nice work. Hopefully nothing will turn up in the testing that will require any re-engineering and you can go full production.

I'm just bummed I don't have room in mine to go this route - oh, well...

That's okay, your car is "COOL" without A/C!

Day 1 of testing (yesterday)

I drove the car to a friends house (about 110 mile round trip) yesterday. On the way there, the A/C worked great (about 90 deg. outside). I had to keep turning the fan speed lower because I was getting "goose bumps" on my legs (wearing short pants). About 3/4 of the way there, the compressor/blower fuse blew. I replaced it and continued on to my destination. On the way home, the fuse blew again. It was one of the plastic bodied fuses that kind of shrunk under the pressure of the sprung fuse holder. I replaced it with a porcelain one. The compressor and bracket seem to be working just fine, but the fuse issue is bothering me. I am not sure what to do. I did stop at Pick-A-Part on my way down and got a 126 CCU. I installed it when I got home, and I seem to have dash vents now, rather than just defrost and footwell vents only. Any help from you electrical gurus would be appreciated. Thanks, Rich

The electrics can be sorted out - that's all stock stuff. The fact that the compressor and bracket are working well on the car thus far is excellent.

Howdy,

I am interested in #10 of 10. Just one question. I have modified and in the process of modifying my engine a great deal. The oil filter will be relocated (in the vincinity of the washer resevoire). No PS pump (I got manual / mechanical) and I plan on running a serpitine belt. I assume the set up will still work. Thanks. Please PM when you get the kits made up.

Yes, the serpentine Sanden compressors are readily available. However, the belt may not line up with all the other accessories. You may need to modify it, so I can't say it would be the best way to go. If you are deleting the PS pump, you may want to mount the compressor up high anyway. Getting all the accessories lined up requires some fabricating skills (or good sourcing of factory parts to adapt), so you may need to make your own bracket or modify an existing Sanden compressor mount. I think the 190's came with a Sanden, as well as other later M B's with the serpentine belt setup.

I am only operating the alternator and when it's hot, which is most of the year in SC, the A/C. Everything else is gone. I have a EWP, no PS, no Vaccuum pump, so I think lining up 2 things should be OK. I will send you some pic's shortly to get your .02 cents worth.

Thanks.

Thumbs up

MB had some external fuse update for the SDs with the AC and blower. Search my name here and you will find it. If not, PM me and I will post the photos of how it works. I think I even posted the PN in my thread.

Good to hear the conversion is working. My kit from Klima showed last week, I have started the write up.

No problem. I also have the prototype that I offered to another member for cheap, but he has not gotten back to me yet. If it becomes available, you will have first right of refusal.....Rich
