I put on 22 miles on my car. Loaded it with old free stereo equipment. Four 1971 Pioneer speakers and Teac reel to reel. Some tapes.
I used to be a recording systems tech with a data gathering division of NSA in the early 70s This Teac should be good enough that I can at least digitize some of the music I have in my collection of reel to reel tapes and his.

I washed the 190d yesterday.....today I neither drove nor did anything to them. Wife drove her 300E a few places, it has had no need for anything in ages. Too cold out to work outside like I prefer, and the 420 is in the garage and doesn't really need anything right now as its not in use. Come warmer weather the 420 gets a new idle control module, new battery, trans fluid/filter, and gear oil, then it will be ready to hit the road. I will probably also do the extra brake lights mod to it. The 300SD is getting retired and parted this spring/summer as the body is too far gone. The 190d needs very little either...

Today I gave the 240 a wash job, and waxed every thing but the top.
Threw on some 303 protectant on the tires and bumper trim. Used some metal polish to the grill, hood star and mirrors. Then gave the aluminum air cleaner lid another polishing. I was so motivated I even gave the old Datsun PU a wax job. the red paint was a little faided out, and used McGuires wax/cleaner and she looks better than a new Fire truck. Charlie

Fabbed up a bracket and adapter to attach the 1990 Toyota pickup throttle cable to the OM617 IP throttle linkages. Cranked her up and moved her about the driveway.
Quite a turning point for me, today was the first time this truck had moved under it's own power, both while in my possession and while diesel powered. |

Yesterday on my 1983 300CD, I finished rebuild on my vacuum pump and installed it. Decided that it was a good time, with hoses off to gain a more open work area to citrus flush the cooling system and then put in anti-freeze.
Major leaks around the power steering pump, so I left the belt off until I can install new seals, and new hoses hoping that will end those leaks. Also using gunk and degreaser cleaned some more of the engine and bay. Have an emerging leak of oil only after driving on turbo side, anyone know what the cause may be? |

Filled her up and took a drive. Heater works so very nice on a cold day like this that I feel spoiled.

Adjusted a leaking coolant hose, flushed the coolant for the correct type, installed aftermarket backup lights, RTV'd the many cracks on my dash out of sheer decency, and replaced the glove-box lock mechanism. Oh, and I pressured-washed the engine... it is now squeaky clean!
I am happy as a clam!

Not a merc, but in the last week I:
Put in a new brake line from front to rear Scrubbed and painted the rear suspension mounts Installed a new axle and trailing arm assembly New parking brakes (grrr drum springs) New rotors/pads New muffler Headlight bulb Taillight bulb Put fresh unicorn blood in the front/rear diffs Need to put in new calipers now, the old ones I hoped to reuse are sticking. I don't mind the $60 but I'm really not up for bleeding brakes again.

my radiator cracked on top.So using fiberglass tape,and bondo,I have repaired and stopped crack with a drilled hole.

Yeah ! went through some things I have stored since moving and found my runout dial gauge and magnetic base. Just what I need to install the new rotors , pads and wheels bearings this weekend. Does that count ?

Swapped both front window regulators from my parts car to my drivable 240D, reinstalled door panels, handles, and all other interior door trim. Took a little cruise around the industrial park where my buddy's body shop is, where my dear old 240D has spent the last couple years undergoing its second major overhaul in the ~9 years I've owned it. My "new" '85 300D Turbo is pretty sweet, but man, I miss that four speed! It's almost done, just need to replace the brake light switch so I can get my state inspection and get it back on the road (legally), but I'm having a heck of a time getting wrenches in there behind the brake pedal to loosen the retaining nuts, could really use some pointers from somebody who has tackled this job before.

Now my clock only works when the key is on....go figure... One of these days I'll have to go back in and check it. All the modern conviences of today...I used to use my clock but just ignore it now, and kinda keep an eye on the oil level more frequently. When changing your hoses for p/s check and see if they are tight at the box end, mine were loose and causing me to have to fill w/ p/s fluid monthly. Changing out the low pressure hose and tighteneing the p/s ends fixed all my leaks! If they will not tighten up, you can try the old garden hose seal trick, considered that one myself!
