The station I fueled up at a week ago for $3.529/gal was up to 3.839 this afternoon... They must have gotten a fresh tanker load for a 31 cent increase...
The station at home was at $3.739 this morning, I'll have to check them out tomorrow morning...

Well, down here in the south, EVERYTHING is deep fried. Haha, so there is tons of it everywhere. Plus, I have lots of friends in the restaurant business so they just talked to the right people for me. It seems like I had better luck with the "mom and pop" restaurants than the larger commercial chains who's managers were afraid they'd get fired if they didn't adhere strictly to the guidelines.

Maybe, maybe not, but certainly not worthwhile at $4-5.

Personally I will be looking into making my own biodiesel if the prices get much over $6-7 or so....either that or buying a tdi or something as my daily driver and not using my SD as much. That would be a sad day.

I just can't imagine that it would ever be worth the time. It would be like growing your own food and making your own clothes. If prices got high enough to be a problem, I would just buy something more efficient for daily use.

In thinking about it realistically, I'd rather spend time with family and drive a small efficient car....so you're right. I'd be happy with a Golf tdi manual, or even a Lupo/rabbit if they'd bring the diesel versions of those here. 75mpg makes expensive fuel a lot easier to swallow!

That's basically what happened in the 70s when the price "jumped" from about $0.30 to $1.00 in a few years, everyone ran out and bought a little ricer or VW bug. To have a similar effect today, we would have to be in the $6-8 range. Very few folks are going to trade the family SUV for a smart car/TDI/etc. because the price goes up by only $1-2 over a couple of years.

Our "cheapest" diesel is 3.949. The rest are 4.099 to 4.199.
RUG 3.199 typically...

I love the south for the simple reason that everything is fried. Plus i live in a tourist heavy area.. tons of non corporate controlled resteraunts. I have a friend that works at this place called "The Pub" its a pub for the UK tourists and such.. always busy and they are always frying something. I'm going to see about getting some oil to test.

Friday I'm going to order my biodiesel book and a titration kit. I had it good in high school since I had access to a complete chem lab.. Burettes, flasks, magnetic stiring things... everything.. now.. I have nothing

I found my water heater locally for $50 and just need my book so I can piece together my processor. pick up some drums , methanol, and Lye and we'll be good to go

I dont understand how it couldn't be worth it even at 4-5 bucks per gallon. BioDiesel costs me less than a dollar per gallon to make. Sure there is an initial investment, especially if you get suckered into one of those expensive pre-made processors. But the whole thing should pay for itself within the year!

Well, here in GR, MI we're up to 3.45 for RUG, and 3.99-4.09 for diesel. Higher and higher she goes. Thats 60 cents of increase for diesel in the past 4-5 weeks. Wshew. It goes up 20 cents between each time I fill my car!!
