123 Euro wagon hitch, same as sedan hitch?

Im looking for the euro hitch for my 85 euro 300TD Turbo. Is it the same as a euro sedan hitch?

If anyone has a hitch they would like to sell please let me know, thank you!

There is a seller in the parts section. Not sure if it has been updated. Seems to be a Euro S123 too

Why a euro hitch? US hitches for sedans and wagons are quite different.

I guess he wanted a euro one for his euro version car.

Basically US version or euro version hitches wont interchange with each other (sedan & wagons).

Since on a 123 the bumpers will interchange I would think the basic mounts would be the same. Since there is a gas tank instead of spare tire well though the brace which runs forward would be different. The brace would be pretty easy to fabricate if one has access to a welder.

The braces on a US wagon hitch run down the bumper shock tubes. It's possible to fabricate them but it's not easy.

Why doesn't someone just invest some of their time and hard earned money and fabricate one already so I don't have to
Come on folks I want a hitch too so there are at least 2 customers out here to make it worth your while

My '84 Euro 300TD came with a rear Euro bumper & hitch. It also has the same rear body sockets that US wagons use for the 5-mph bumper shocks

On my Euro hitch kit, there are 4 reinforcing braces that tie the hitch to the rear unibody frame-rails. 2 mount inside the spare-tire and tool wells and 2 in those rear body sockets.
The Euro hitch bolts to these 4 braces and the Euro bumper bolts to the hitch. My Euro hitch kit doesn't interfere in any way with the fuel-tank or exhaust-pipe.

On 3 other Euro W123 bodies I've seen (two '83 230TEs and one '84 300D) without hitches, the rear bumper was bolted to a cross brace, which bolted directly only to 2 studs below the tailgate.
Unlike my wagon, those cars didn't have the rear body sockets for the Euro hitch reinforcing braces.
I don't know if there was a different Euro hitch made for them. IMHO, the 2 rear bumper studs on those cars are not adequate to support a hitch.

So far as I know, there were no 'factory' hitches availible for the US W123 cars.
The aftermarket ones I've seen on these forums, either bolt to the six bumper-shock studs, or clemp around the bumper shock tubes, with additional brackets that mount outside the frame-rails or under the spare-tire well.

Happy Motoring, Mark

Besides my Sanden bracket, the next fabbed part I was going to make is a trap-ox bypass pipe. I was thinking I need to make a 123/126 oil pan skid plate. A friend bottomed out his car and lost all the oil out of a hole in the pan, and I did the same with my SD. However, I might be talked into making a wagon hitch next. It would be cool to have a hitch on my wagon, so I have the vehicle to mock it up on. I may be willing to take on a project like this. I think the hitch would have to be a little different for the Euro bumper, but maybe could be made to work on either one. I have a rear wagon Euro bumper to work with, but am not sure if I want to remove the U S bumper on my wagon to see if a hitch would mount the same with either bumper. Some careful measurements taken from a Euro bumpered wagon might be in order.....Rich

There are pictures of the US wagon hitch in this thread:

Should I install "this" hitch on my diesel wagon?

Found the hitch on the Curt site:
http://www.curtmfg.com/HitchLookup/find?mount=Rear+Mount&year=1982&make=Mercedes&model=300TD+or+TE+Wagon&style=123+Chassis

I am sure that is the MSRP. You may be able to find one cheaper. That gives me a good idea as to how they are mounted, and will make it easier for me to make one (or two, or three, or..........)....Rich
