Please see posts 25 thru 34.

Car went public in July '13. Done about 3500mls since and it's now stored till April when the weather here improves.
For a while I've been encouraged by Mach4 to put up a build thread. Just took me for ever to do it.

Only problem with the shaft was a ticking which increased with road speed. Tracked it down to a parking brake cable touching one of the balance weights once per rev of the shaft.

Sorted.

It all looks wonderful.
A friend would like me to drop a 300D engine into his '72 280SE. Insist it's a piece of cake that would only take a few days. Ha!

Happy Motoring, Mark

Amazing work. We don't have the onerous MOT reg's you deal with, and that I see on the Wheeler Dealers show. There are some rules on swapping older engines into newer cars in some states, but as long as you don't sell the car it won't be inspected in CA.

I know little of M-B gas (i.e. petrol) engines, but that DOHC in-line six w/ Jetronic fuel injection you removed looks sweet to this Chrysler slant six owner. I have thought of going the other way if the diesel in one of my 300D's fails again. I have a gas Chrysler small block V-8 and tranny lying around, but the thought of dealing w/ mods to the K-frame, oil pan, engine mounts, and driveshaft is intimidating. I am not a diesel fanatic, and it is more expensive than gas in the U.S. I just hope for cheap bio-diesel someday.

OUTSTANDING.
No wonder this topic landed in Peach Parts newsletter
I know you will find thousands of garages with project like that started, but I heard about only one more of this magnitude that is on the road.
I think good things should go in pair, so here is the link to the topic about guy in Poland doing another impossible.
W124 OM606.910 swap gearbox, turbo, electronic IP and etc from W210

Just caught up with this and although I have enormous admiration for what is being done, I have to wonder why. The answer that the builder prefers diesel to gasoline and that the original engine is not so great for UK roads begs several questions. While the dohc 2.8 litre gas engine has enough oomph for most drivers (bearing in mind that these 30 year old or more cars are pretty much cruisers rather than muscle cars) the R207 is no lightweight and I have to wonder if the installation of even a turbo diesel is going to improve performance that much. While the finished product will no doubt be one hell of an achievement all I can see is the ruination of a classic.

ALL the OP's pictures just disappeared. Wonder what's up with that?? Could be Druk decided to do a proprietary how-to by subscription instead. It was nice to get to see it while it lasted........

Or, it could be that he exceeded the bandwidth of his photobucket account.

Well it has just been included in a Pelican news letter so I guess that raised the hits.
