What are the plastic lines called?

Hello All,

Does anyone know what those plastic lines are called? I am not sure how often they fail, but they look like they can. I have a 1985 300DT with 218K and I'm making the rounds maintenance.
Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Fuel lines

I think you can still buy individual lines for poo loads of cash with the banjo ends fitted from the dealer.

I split the old lines from the old banjo ends and fitted new fuel lines (just standard stuff - has to be fuel grade - from the local motor factors) with help of a heat gun and a fair amount of hard pushing.

TECAL-Leitungen

.

in Germany it is called TECAL-Leitungen or simply Tecal just like the line
from intake to ALDA.

those fuel lines do not see pressure above 4 bar, usually under 3 or 1 at idle.

cheers

Seems like I read that Vstech bought a set from the dealer.
Mine are band-aided together and I would like to get new ones, too.
Anyone know part #s and dealer prices for the 617?
Don't see them here on PP.

There are identical lines that provide oil to the injection pump though, those are the scary ones.

This is what I found on EPC:

If you search for those part numbers you'll find them on PP. They range from $15 to $40.

It's just nylon tubing. I've used this stuff from GreaseWorks several times. You heat the nipple until it's good and warm then press this stuff on. Don't heat the tubing, it gets too soft and will bend and kink. It says it's for VW, but its the same size as those lines on the Mercedes as well.

Most gasoline cars today use nylon fuel line. It does crack and leak, so replacements are common at auto parts stores, though fairly expensive so the GreaseWorks price isn't bad (link above). I don't know if a U.S. size wouldl match the M-B fittings. They don't use hose clamps, you just push the tubing on over the fittings, and suggested to heat the ends in boiling water first. It somehow settles to match the barbs on the fitting and stays tight forever. Most U.S. fittings are nylon and black, as is the tubing. I would be much less worried about a leak w/ diesel than with gasoline, though the later does make itself known by the smell.

I ended up ordering the line Biodiesel300 linked to.
It'll save me $50 and looks just fine.
My wife and I are getting ready for a road trip to Monterey and I want the
SD in good shape. On the way down we're going to take a little detour and
go visit Charlie for a while. Can't wait to see him and his stash of parts!
Should be fun.

Jeff
