oil pan disaster need help

oil pan disaster, need advice. I have a 603 in my 81 SD and literally all it too was a bump on a curb and I was gushing oil. The design of these pans makes me sick, ive seen a dozen 300E cars at PNP with crashed pans. So anyway i bumped it pulling into a parking spot and raced home before I lost all my oil. I work out of this vehicle and its my bread and butter and besides the fact ill have to pull the 603 to even repair this, i need to find a hens teeth oil pan. My question: I sold my brother a 300E and him and his wife couldnt stop overheating it and finally seized it so im wondering if an M103 pan will fit a om603? I bet the bolts line up, but the oil pickup might be an issue. Anyone have any clue? Me and dieselkraut installed a 603 pan on a 606 so its obvious mercedes kept things similar in their straight sixes. Anyone have any knowledge on this?

When you find a new pan to install ...
That would be a good time to install new springs it seems...

LOL... I remember seeing a video of a Bugatti going down a road that had speed bumps...and scraping the bottom of the car on every one... there is such a thing as too low with parking lot speed bumps at different heights.... so WAY too high...

Shameless plug but I have a 603.971 one-piece sump and oil pump taking up space 150 miles SW of Cameron Park. I think I also have a splash/windage tray that needs a small repair but that requires replacing the main caps and/or bolts.

There are several of these pans on EBay at the moment:
603 oil pan -gasket mercedes | eBay

Not sure how it's wedges into your SD, but I was able to change the pan in my 190DT (602 turbo) by using an engine hoist to lift the motor and shift it around a bit. I also used the highest jackstands available to make clearance.

It should. Isn't it the same oil pan in the 90-91 350SD/L.

Mine had a crack and seeped oil for years. I had it repaired by an Aluminum welder while the pan was removed last spring. No more leaks. I lifted the engine as high as I could with an engine hoist in order to get the pan off. However, the head was off too. I'm not sure it could be lifted high enough with the head still on there.

I've got one if you need it I'd let go pretty cheap... shipping might be a little spendy from so-cal though.

Cool to know it can be tigged i thought the oil would have seeped to far into the metal after all these years. Thanks for the offers guys but dieselkrauts got my back, he even arranged a tow.i got him a 603 pan for a 606 a while back(my backup ) and hes not using the 606 yet so we will swap pans and hes going to have the crack tig welded. Im definetly going to try to get the pan out without removing the motor and im changing the turbo oil line while im at it (i or someone before over torqued it and ruined the seating surface). Ill update this thread as to whether the pan can be pulled in car or not, and in the coming weeks me and sirnik are going to armor this thing.

I saw a 350sdl in pick your part in fresno a couple weeks ago. It had a #22 head also so that might make it worth the trip.

I was able to change the pan in my '91 350SDL without removing the engine. I used an engine support that is used to hold the engine in a front wheel drive car while the trans is out. The support holds the engine up enough to remove the oil pan without a problem. You will need to remove the throttle linkage and maybe other things that would keep the engine from being raised. It is not a hard job in the 350SDL, but your '81 with the 603 might be different. The only way to find out is to try!
