No gears from bad valve body

A while back I started a thread because I had no functioning gears
with my 722.303 auto transmission. My tranny was temporarily fixed
when I changed a kinked cooler line. A week or two after I thought it was
fixed I lost all my gears again. No Forward or Reverse.

I was ready to throw in the towel and put in a different tranny when I read one last thread
where someone with the same symptoms fixed it by changing out the valve body.

Went to the JY pulled a VB and bingo! it fixed my tranny.
I have now been driving it for a couple of months and all seems well.
I opened up the old valve body a little and found this broken plastic inside the K2 port.
Haven't taken the whole thing apart yet.

So, if you have no gears, try replacing the valve body before you buy a new tranny--$50 vs $2K
Started this new thread for people in the future searching this problem.

Jaggi Import who rebuilds valve bodies for $225 Services

I did not rebuild my valve body or use Jaggi Import, just including the links for others.
Hope this can help someone down the road.

And on the other hand, I cleaned and rebuilt my valve body to no avail. Just depends on what the issue is, but always worth trying the simple fix first!

My coupe was/is having problems shifting, and losing gears. At first, it had no fourth gear. Then it would not shift out of first until high RPM's. With the weather very hot now, it shifts through the first three gears okay, but will not even try to go into fourth. I will definitely try at least changing the filter and fluid before replacing the entire trans. If that does not work, I have several cores for valve body donors.

After draining the pan I removed the filter and let everything drip overnight before
removing the valve body as it just keeps on dripping...and dripping....

I used Shell 134 ATF as per Mark at Sun Valley Trans recommendation.
I also put in half a bottle of Trans-X. More than one person here swears by it.
I was using Valvoline Maxlife Dex/Merc before and could never get rid of my leaks.
Don't know if the fluid change made the difference but I have zero leaks now.

Thumbs up Trans-X

Which version of Trans-X did you use ? .

Everyone swears by it so I went to buy some and there were 6 or 7 different bottles......

I bought the yellow bottle and used it in my '82 240D's weepy and poor shifting tranny, it worked fine after that and almost stopped using ATF for several years, when the engine finally needed rebuilding I had the tranny done at the same time .

I only saw one version when I bought it.
It was a blue bottle. I put half of it in when I replaced the valve body.
I had just changed the fluid so I reused it after carefully catching it
to make sure it stayed clean.
Then after about three weeks I dumped it all and put in fresh fluid and
the other half of the bottle.
