i have a 1996 E 300 diesel, engine type 606.912, and at the top of the box in question there are 2 lines at the top coming in from and back out to the fuel filter base.At the bottom a line goes from the plastic box to the lower central injection pump.At the side of the black plastic box is also connected a section of wiring maybe 3 wires thick. The fuel leak is at its worse when the vehicle is cold but when it leaks it really drips steady! What is this box,a cold start valve ???, and can i replace it without having to replace the fuel injection pump???? this box is mounted to the pump by one torx screw at the rear of box. thanks---stew

Re: fuel leak at black plastic junction box at top side of injection pump .what is b
I have the same problem. I have a 1996 E300D diesel. The black "box" is the fuel shutoff valve. All the plastic fuel lines have "O" ring seals. The shutoff valve has a seal where it enters the injector pump. However, I don't know how to remove the valve. I can see only one screw holding it but it won't budge even with the screw removed. I hope someone can come up with help.

hi, thank you everyone for your help. There are actually two #30 torx screws holding the shut-off valve in place. the other one you can feel the opening to by running your finger along the side of the valve, note i said the opening as it is a blind screw! there is an o-ring that seals the input of the valve to injection pump that was leaking on my vehicle. The cost was $3.- and it took about an hour after i had my splash guards removed.I also removed the fuel filter to access the shutoff valve although it was not necessary.Good luck and again thanks to everyone!!!

Fuel leak
Thanks for the info regarding the attach screws for the fuel shutoff valve. Found the 2nd one and removed the valve, replaced the "o" ring. The 2 attach screws have a very shallow torq socket and I had a tough time gettin the hidden one out. Replaced both with Allen socket head cap screws, which have a deaper socket. All "o"rings have been replaced so hopefuly no leaks. It's a dumb design. Again thank for all the help.

Does anyone know for sure what the seal between the shutoff valve and the Injector Pump body seals? Is it fuel or oil? I had replaced all of the plastic fuel lines but still have a leak at the shutoff, but it is a fuel leak for sure not oil. Could it be that seal or is the valve itself leaking?
I am pretty sure I can get the valve out by just moving the washer bottle out of the way but don't want to replace that seal unless it is a fuel seal. |

It is a fuel seal, an o-ring sealing the passage between the valve and injection pump housing
