85SD stopped counting at 240,000. Engine & tranny original. Been in the family since new. I guess it's time to fix the odo - after I get the hood repaired. Note to self: Don't EVER leave hood unlatched thinking you'll remember to close it before driving.

Currently 488k on the 300D but I replaced the engine at 438k due to low compresion and the tranny at about 250k for the usual reasons. The 240D is just a pup.

I'm driving the 300D from CO to NJ this weekend.

My 1980 300CD just rolled over to 268k on a working odometer. Runs great! I do think the tranny might need to be rebuilt soon though, it flares on occasion.

I bought Elvira new in 1984 and 25 years later, she only has 225K miles on her - engine and trans are original - I still have all the original paperwork, including the window sticker.

Hate to reactivate an old post, but I just inherited a 1982 300SD from my godfather. He bought it new in 1982, and I inherited it at 553,492 miles, on the original engine and trans, never rebuilt. Is it uncommon for these cars to make it that far?

With proper maintenance, that's not very uncommon. Neither is getting them to 1 mill. Take car of it and it will give back with longevity.

My 1985 300SD California model is at 282000 miles. I have owned it two months now and have driven it 3000 miles.

It had a transmission "ring gear" replaced in the 90's as well as a new long block from the factory in the 90's (done at a SF dealership for over $8000). I assume that means there is really a lot less than 280k on the engine. I had no idea about that until I dug through the glove box after buying the car.
