Thanks for the reply.
Were you able to keep your headlight wipers and washers? I'm going to look for that connector on the side of the washer fluid tank. Thanks again, Bob

I got rid of the wipers/washers as I didn't really like the look of them and they kept getting stuck in different positions. I installed a blank panel instead under the lights.
The connector you want is on the front of the washer fluid tank as you're looking in the engine compartment- there's a small cylinder on the front right recessed into the main tank with a black electrical connector on top- just disconnect that and tuck it away. Don't pull the whole cylinder up like I did first time or you'll have washer fluid everywhere!

Give Bob Swetkis, dealer principal a call at Bobby Rahal Mercedes.
They might be more expensive than an independent, but Bob is the best in the business and will bend over backwards to ensure that youre taken care of! Tell him I recommended calling him - he's a friend of mine. Farrukh Majid E500 040 black |

Indiana Sales and Service is a ex mercedes dealership that I deal exclusively with. Joe Lash, their shopforman for many years is the only mechanic I let near my 16v (has done the timing chain update, has all the microfische, etc). He is factory trained and has been working on these cars for years, but since the dealership is now nissan, the rates are VERY reasonable (I think its 55/hour?). Talk to joe directly to make sure he is the one doing work on the car. Indiana is probably an hour and a half drive from Pittsburgh, the area code is 15701 and the dealership is located on Phillidelphia St. Nice town, drop the car off, say hi to Joe and Tony and have a beer up the street at the Coney.

Seeking good independent shop in Reading, PA
HI,
I'm facing a rather hefty $1700 repair tab to replace sticky lifters, quoted by reputable dealer. Having some thoughts about seeking qualified independent shop to do this work. Any suggestion? Kind thanks,

Good mechanic in State College, Pa.?
I am moving to State College in a couple of weeks, and am going to need a go-to guy for my '87 300D. I have one here in Del. who has been fantastic, and I can hopefully still take my car to him if I have the chance to come home and visit the state. But I'll definately need someone up in State College "in case of emergency" who really knows MBs and does a good job. Anyone know of someone in that area?

I use Star Service Center in Allentown. 610-437-3374
He's been pretty good to me and 4 of my Mercedes over the last 6 or 7 years or so. He is an authorized Bosch service center, fwiw. Is the dealer you're talking about Tom Masano? I don't know much about them, other than bumming around one of their used car lots once

Try Kieffer's in Douglassville 610-3265754. Not the premier looking place on the outside but I've been totally satisfied with my last 2 repairs. The local dealer just wants to run up the bill. And these people are friendly, not arrogant service advisors selling unnecessary repairs. They are in the Berks county yellow pages. Just off of 422 beside the Sunoco gas station.

Good independent shop in Reading
Thanks kindly for good suggestions on two independent shops in the Reading area, quite helpful.
Since the dealer suggested that lifters be replaced, I sought advice from ******** 610-775-6787, just off Lancaster Ave, near CVS, and agreed that first course of action should be to try additive Lubro Moly which, in most cases, settles the lifters down. I have not had enough drive time to see if this works, but was pleased by small shop's attitude to try a $25 fix instead of $1700 replacement of lifters. ******** suggests sticking with the additive for each oil change. Appox. 1 qt. ******** is one man show and specializes in Mercedes, VW, BMW and Audi.

Thanks for the tip ... I took my car there earlier this week and it seems like a good place; the guy seems to know his Benzes.
