Hurricanes aside,I love the weather here more than anything. You can't beat it between October and April. Especially December thru Feb.

The people are OK for the most part, although there are *******s everywhere you go.

The beaches...I don't worry about sharks, lifes too short.

The women, the women, oh...did I mention the women?

I have the keys 40 minutes from my house so all is well.

However, if I could make the same amount of $$$ someplace else, I wouldn't mind trying it out.

No cold weather though!

Came to Denver for graduate school. Stayed because I liked it. Some of the best canoeing in the world. Great cross-country skiing in the mountains, but the winters are pretty mild in Denver.
We live downtown so can walk to cinema, restaurants, shopping. I couldn't stand living in the suburbs where I had to drive to everything.
The biggest drawback is that we're a long way from the ocean.

Doesn't AZ have its own set of unique challenges i.e. sizzling heat and tightening water supply? I can't speak from extended personal experience - I have only been there briefly and it is beautiful country in the parts I have seen.

I'm thinking maybe Oregon, Puget Sound area for a future move.

Well, I happen to like sizzling heat -- summer is my favorite time of year here. The main draw to AZ is the vastly different geography/ecology -- you can go from hot arid desert to the land of lakes and pines in about an hour or so. There are also some top-notch ski resorts within a couple hours of sun-baked Phoenix. If you like it cooler, greener, and wetter, Oregon is a wonderful choice -- particularly if you're fond of the ocean. But all the west is great -- I haven't been anywhere west of Nebraska that I didn't think was spectacular.

I've always loved the Seattle area but have come over the last few years to dislike my neighborhood of 12 years. Were once was a heavily treed green space bordering my back yard is now 3 houses that feature a karaoke shrieking couple. Another neighbor is under the care of a state-supplied psychiatrist. The neighbor varies his medical dosages seemingly daily and has been known to threaten nearly everyone who passes in front of his house. Another neighbor, who weighs in at about 375 lbs hates everything and everyone. Then there are the neighbors who keep their large dog on the 6x20 deck where he pees and poops, and the dog owner’s idea of maintenance is to wash the waste off the deck with 1 bucket of water, a couple of times a week. This is the same neighbor whose son and a border threatened to murder me because I complained about them using my yard as their private trash receptacle. The good news is that these folks take far, far more care of their dog’s excrement than they do rest of their property. Then there is the neighbor who collects junk that used to be cars. In 12 years he’s never lifted a finger to even remove the plant life that grows abundantly on his “restorable” treasures.

My house has suffered burglaries 5 times, vandalism 2 times. There was a shooting across the street. I could go on. in short, the best thing to happen to this neighborhood recently was to have a Police precinct move in about 6 months ago. I hear that the city has decided to level 20 forested acres one block north of my house to build another sprawling low cost housing project. The street in front of my house is to be the main access route to this ‘hood. I plan to move in spring.

But Seattle is a fine place. The Sound, lakes, temperate weather and proximity to the vast coast and mountains plus all the offerings of a large city creates a nice backdrop. That is, except for the government and traffic. Since global warming set in, we only get rain 1 or 2 days every about 2 weeks, at most.

That said I leave town as often as possible to head to the stix, where I'm surrounded by wildlife of many kinds, new and old growth forest, a massive national park in the middle of 5 distinct wilderness areas and more trails, mountains, lakes and streams than one could visit in a life. There is a restoration project taking place where one of the local native American tribes, along with the DNR, and the US Forest service are paying for a project to create and expand a fish hatchery where the plan is to reintroduce several species of wild fish stock into the river. In this area the neighbors are friendly, helpful, and will even stop and chat for a few minutes. When the yard isn’t filled with elk there are everything from dozens of birds, to large and small wild cats, fox, wolf, coyote, raccoons, rabbit, and, well, you name it.

Ouch.....I can honstly say I'd have problems with those neighbors too, and the neighborhood.

Med MECH, we still dont know where you are!

Setting aside all the myths and fallacies, nowhere in the world is better than San Diego County.

I just did a cross country trip, from Phil. to Mass. down south to Ark. through the southwest, yes, by far the MOST SPECTACULAR scenery. My original thought was after seeing one scenic New Mexico mountain against a clear blue sky and you've seen em all, WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was breathtakiing the whole way. I became a danger on the road towing a trailer driving my ebay sight unseen purchased 4Runner, grabbing my digital camera and trying to decide which pics of penn. mass or anywhere else back east I would miss the least

cuz I needed to delete them to take some more shots of the southwest. I had run out of film, 15 rolls !!!!!!!!

Having read all the descriptors here, except BOTS, I dont know which is less understandable from him, his french or his technical biologic descriptions,,,

I will undoubtably say, every single thing described is available in San Diego County.

Most people wind up living where they do for peripherial reasons, the wife likes it, family, job, its where they grew up etc., money.

In all seriousness, I dont have any of those burdens. I dont have any extended family, NONE. I just made over half a million on my house. Im self employed and can work anywhere and my wife is on her way over from the Philippines and doesnt care where we live.

I narrowed the best places in the WORLD to live to Hawaii, Calif. and Florida.

Hawaii you flat out get Island fever, been there, done that. Fla. is just too humid, besides, them damn hurricanes.

I would actually prefer lliving in RP (Rep. de Phil.) as for weather, but the USA is the best bet overall for many reasons, so we are gonna have a winter home in RP.

San Diego,,,,,,Earthquakes, forget it, they aint no big deal. Seriously, of all the natural disasters, its the one I would want to have happen the most.

In north county along the coast you have beautiful and spectacularly scenic beaches. You can literally drive 5 miles inland and you are in mountains, green mountains, go farther east and you have low desert, or high desert.

San Diego is extremely diff. than Los Angeles in that it is hilly, everywhere. You can find flat valleys, but the views if you want one are everywhere. Creeks, lakes, etc.

There is a stretch in No. County that is right out of Andy of Mayberry.

If you like night life, downtown has it, you can live or drive there easily. major sports, sorely lacking in Hawaii, Tijuana is a great place to visit, as is all of Mexico coast for lots of things.

Creeks in your back yard, ha! I can build ya one....Im gonna have one go right through my living room.

I have never heard one person in SD who didnt say they love it there, and when in LA, everyone says they wanna move. THE TWO ARENT EVEN REMOTELY similiar.

This damn post is probably gonna freeze up and never get posted

The biggest proof that calif, particularly SD is the best is thats where people move to. Not to worry, there is alot more space there than most realize.

Huntington Beach is great, I grew up there for a few years. LOVED IT. State beaches, fires, parties, bbq's

And probably 10 - 20% of the population of the San Diego area is comprised of Phoenix refugees who decided they couldn't handle the heat anymore.

Gosh that sounds like a bad part of Seattle... I visit old buds there and it's always fun...although there are darker sides of town..and they complain about the overpopulation ....One friend lives on Whidby Island...with a lake in her backyard....on the island...Is the most serene place I've ever been to....

For the most part I like where I currently live. My "luxury" apartment complex sits on top of a large hill at the very foot of the Texas Hill Country. I have a killer view of Fiesta Texas (Six Flags Theme Park) and the rest of the entire city (night view is cary cool) where I'm perched (the noise in the summer can be kinda distracting). I get a killer fireworks show every night for the summer months due to Fiesta Texas. I'm literally 3 minutes from school and about 15 minutes from work. The Shops at La Cantera are going to open up soon, this is a blessing and a curse. Damn good shopping really close by, traffic is gonna suck around here. University with 27K+ students (mostly commuter), summer Fiesta Texas crowds, and huge ass shopping center right by the I-10 and 1604 sorry excuse for an interchange...yeah. Overall, the city of San Antonio is good size though, roughly 2 million. Big enough, but not too big. However, there is a down side to this too, it's one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S.

Downsides to this place are there too. The road system absolutely sucks. Most of our major freeways don't have interchanges. the I-10/410 interchange has been under construction for the last 10 years or so and we out grew it like 3 years after they started it. The drivers here are terrible, AND I MEAN TERRIBLE! This may offend some, but we have WAY too many immigrants from Mexico and with them comes their mafia and gangs. Our city politics are corrupt as hell.

Wow, the first part of your post sounds like a war zone. It stinks when neighbors don't maintain minimal standards. Are you within Seattle city limits or the burbs?

I live in Toronto. Not bad but not good either. Boring as heck. I'd prefer Seoul, but convincing the wife is not too likely. As far as where in Toronto we live, let's just say I picked the spot so it is very convenient for her to take the bus to work - that way my Benz is not parked in her school parking lot where kids would do who knows what to it.
