waiting, waiting, waiting......for I.S. to return the "Death Star" computer today. To make sure this occurs today I am going down to Key Bridge, point East and chant to Mecca, just as soon as the clean-up crew get the camel off the bridge that got hit in rush hour traffic. Wish me luck guys!

Yeeehhhhaaaaa and yaba daba doo.

A person I know just settled an audit for $.10 on the dollar.

Government wanted about $450,000 including tax, interest and penalties. Tax attorney appealed and settled case for $46,000.;)

...and he didn't have to stay at a Holiday Inn Express either!:P

Our fiscal year ends this Sunday so it's inventory time. I'll start counting today and between walk-in and phone customers should probably finish up Saturday sometime. With any luck we'll sell a lot this week and I'll have to adjust my counts accordingly. The accountants come to audit our numbers on Monday.

The head CPA's sit in our conference rooms with their laptops while the 1st and 2nd year newbies in their suits and skirts clamber over dusty pallets of seed, pesticides and fertilizer, often with little furry critters running around, confirming counts. It's quite the humorous site sometimes! It's obvious that the firm uses us as sort of an initiation because the first timers are always in their usual business attire while the one's who've been here before show up in casual slacks and a collared shirt.

Wow! That must take forever to count all those tiny, little seeds.

Just curious (as I sit here in a polo and slacks;)),

In percentage terms, how much have your audlt fees risen in say, the last 4 or 5 years. The demand nowadays for auditor hours due to tougher audit standards and additional work required exceeds the hours available by the auditors of the world to meet them.

edit:

And those newbies in suits are probably costing you $150+/hr. :D;)

Fortunately they take our word on poundage and fractions thereof :)

Not as much as I'm sure they charge some of their other customers, but thanks to Arthur Anderson it's in the 12-15% range. Since you're in Jersey you've probably heard of BlumShapiro. We're waaaay too small for them now, but we were one of Mr. Blum's first customers when he started the firm way back when and he's taken care of us ever since (even does our personal tax returns-sometimes I wish they weren't so by-thebook :P).

I know very well what those newbies cost us, that's why it's so gratifying to see them get a little scroungy with the rest of us :)

Been there done that!;)

But here's some good news. At least your f/y escapes coming under the new risk asseessment standards for auditors. Unless they apply them earlier.

Swamp- we talking movie material here? You might have a major comedy on your hands. Take some video and we can help decide.

Week's half over and I've got a job interview tomorrow. Woohoo!

Dee8go 10-02-2007 04:14 PM

Oh God, is it Wednesday yet?

Still waiting to find out the results of the interview last week . . .

Dee8go 10-03-2007 11:33 AM

Yaaaa! It's Wednesday AND it's pay day! Woohoo!

Lucky dog, gotta wait until Friday here. Any word on the interview yet?

Last day for the accountants. Mainly just confirming vendors and pricing at this point. Yesterday was the obligatory hot lamp in your face and full body cavity probe. Thanks Arthur Anderson!

I'm really trying to clean off my desk today. It's a tad unkempt (but it does keep pesky outsiders away, they're afraid of an avalanche of sorts :D)

And that's only 1/2 of it. It doesn't even show my incredibly efficient filing system!

Dee8go 10-03-2007 11:54 AM

Mine once looked like that. Just throw everything in the dumpster. That's what I did.

Dee8go 10-03-2007 11:58 AM

Oh, nothing new on the job yet. I'm lighting candles, praying towards Mecca, last night I burned offerings on the gas grill, etc.

There'll be a big "Woohoo!" in this space if I get it, though. That'll probably be posted by Mistress. She's been listening to me ***** about my current job for a long time.
