GBenz- it will get better just not soon enough...hope your daughter is getting better. I had mono when I was 10 and it was bad that was 40 years ago when the treatment was close to non existent.

Did they prescribe steroids back then?

My daughter is on them as well as some ferric sulphate drug.

With her steroid medication, I'm picturing her coming home from school one day looking like the Incredible Hulk!!!

Off to San Francisco airport tomorrow in the Mercedes to have the car smogged and serviceded there, while I fly off to Atlanta for the weekend.


Have never even been in an airport since the week before 9/11 when I got back from Sweden, so there are probably a lot of new security changes now

Jim, make sure you leave plenty of time to get through security and make sure you've got all of your toiletries (less than 3 oz.) in a quart-size ziploc bag (or smaller). Also no beverages bought outside of the check point. Wear shoes that are easily removeable since you'll have to put them in the tray to get scanned (I always throw my belt in there, too, just to avoid the buckle setting off the detector). It's a pain but you can make it a lot easier on yourself if you just prepare ahead of time so you'll fly right through. Whether it's right or not is another argument, but one that you will not win with the TSA agents. I always seem to get stuck behind the people wanting to carry in their water bottles or coffee and full size shampoo in their carry on.:rolleyes:

My hump day thus far has consisted of being an unintended participant in a physics experiment (for the record, no, two objects can NOT occupy the same space at the same time, even if one of the (oversized, under piloted) objects is a shiney new Ferd Exploder and the other is my beloved Elvira, may she rest in peace (pieces?)) and dealing with the immediate consequences of said physics experiment.

Things like collecting witness information, answering questions for the nice young officer, waiting for a tow truck, watching Elvira's carcass get abused by the driver of said tow truck, my first ride in the back of a police cruser (PASSENGER ONLY, the nice police officer man gave me a ride to the nearest rental car place), getting the last and only car the rental place had, taking said rental car to the friendly neighborhood tire shop for a "quick" hour and a half repair after I pointed out the 1/4" diameter metal thingy protruding from the tread of the right rear tire of the last and only car he had to the nice rental car agency man, getting funny pictures taken of my ribs and hip (no breaks, thank goodness - though they had to go back for a second round to make sure what they saw were all old breaks :P), stuff like that there.

I am ready for a drink. Or three. But I have a 60 mile drive 'home' to the apartment I am couch surfing at while the darling missus and I try to buy a house near the new job in MD. And my (dear, kind, and generous) friend/flat mate just hit his 1st dry anniversary, so ain't no drinkin' gonna be happening there.

Sigh. Is it Thursday yet?

Feeling better than I'd expected to be. Hip is fine, ribs ok as long as I'm careful lifting (and don't try to lay on my right side!), and knee is just a nuisance owie at this point.

Spent a fair amount of time yesterday on the phone chasing insurance people. Looking like Elvira will probably wind up in the bone yard, just gotta figure out who's insurance is paying. I've got a witness (was behind me) says I had a solid green, she's got one (was heading opposite my direction) said he had a red, so she must have had a green. Giant gaping hole in his logic is that HIS northbound light was red because my southbound green light included a right turn arrow! Hopefully the police report (and insurance adjusters) reflect that little bit of sanity.

Anybody knows of a rust free NA Miata (1990 - 1997) for sale at a not stupidly high price, lemme know. I'm feeling under roadstered with only two yadas in the fleet :D

Got hit Wednesday. Thursday, friends who learned of my sudden shortage of Miata spotted a potential candidate for sale in CT. Got contact info, sent of requisite email, and arranged to see the car over the weekend (when I was back in CT).

Saw the car Sunday (sweet, VERY clean, unmolested, 93 B package Miata with only 70k miles at a very, very attractive asking price). Seller is parting with his baby only because he and his wife are taking in twin 5 year old foster kids (siblings of foster kids their daughter has taken in) and need a car with a back seat.

Monday got confirmation that Elvira is a total loss, so the darling wife did the bank run in the afternoon and exchanged a bank check for a title last night. Seller had a buyer literally with cash in hand standing in his driveway Monday afternoon wanting to buy the car sight unseen (car was locked away in the garage). Sent the guy away, even though I had not given him a firm commit to buy (couldn't until I knew Elvira was a total).

Got the numbers on Elvira from my insurance company (worst case - will pursue the other driver's insurance for sure). For a 97 Miata with 150k miles, they want to give me $800 more than I paid for it 5 years ago with 60k miles. Yeah, ok, that'll work :D

Jury is still out. Rosa is currently the leading candidate, but we'll see after she and I spend some more quality time together ;)
