Most likely enjoying some of PowerPig's fine barbecue and then watching the fabulous Washington, DC fireworks extravaganza.

Shooting, sailing, hotdogs, and a bit of drinking!

Many thanks to all those brave men who gave up everything so many years ago so we could enjoy it! As they snuck in and out of Philly that hot July signing the Deceleration while the British tried to hunt them down and threatened their family's.

Talks cheap, but it takes balls to be hundreds of miles away talking about rebellion when the worlds most powerful army is only a few miles away from your house and family.

That's quite a view! Love the porch!

Life is good indeed. We'll likely lay low and get some chores done around the house this weekend, then try to enjoy the 4th. Maybe I'll smoke a brisket or ribs, and finish off the last of the good German beer I picked up last time I was over there TDY. I'll probably monkey around in the garage a bit, too -- it needs a thorough cleaning-out after this past winter. Wish I had time to track BobK down and join him for some shootin'. I have a new Garand to try out, along with a K98, M1903, and Sig P6 that I have yet to shoot.

Have fun, all!

Every now and then some big wheel from an overseas oil company would show up at our office and some of us were appointed to show them around the town and keep them out of trouble. I got to do this a lot since I knew the Dallas area well and could also talk shop with them if they had any technical question.

Anyway, one of these minder jobs came up during the week of July 4th so I just spent the day with an oil executive from a African nation, showing them around and what not since I had the day off. During the later part of the day they wanted to know why so many flags were flying and what-not since they were unaware of our holiday and what it represented.

So I ran through the Revolution story rather quickly, and the only question they had was 'Why July 4th?'

That led to a discussion of the Deceleration, which I described as basically a letter sent to King George the III about just what the problem was with his rule and why the war, from the US point of view, had a real reason so the King could not just dismiss the US as a bunch of radicals that were upset over nothing.

Then they laughed and laughed. They thought it was crazy to send the 'letter', and said, 'Only an American would be bold enough to write a letter to a King that says, 'You are wrong!'

By the way.... The diary entry for King George the III's diary on July 4th, 1776, reads, "Nothing important happened today."

Dee8go.
We bring out all kinds of guns, long and short. Hatti would be in heaven. Buddy brought some big bruising Swiss last year. Man what a kick it had! Couple hours of shooting and an hour of picking up brass. You can only do this in a free country.
Although I am in a city, they tend to take a more relaxed approach to fireworks. (stuffs been going off every evening all week around here-I love it). I have 3 acres so I have plenty of room to enjoy without endangering the neighbors.

Fireworks?

No better way to celebrate the 4th than with a mini gun...or three.
