I'm not sure that they do. I always thought their fucntion is to watch and observe from a safe distance and then call the cops to sort out anything that looks wrong.

There may be a unspoken sentiment to also help others in the comunity and be a good citizen but that's up to the individual, I would imagine. To some degree, it would appear that GZ was in fact doing those things. However, he took it a bit too far and is lucky he got away with it. You would think that, at least on the outside, that some of the jurrors would have liked to fry his ass but lacking enough lawful evidence, they had to let him walk. The man is guilty alright, just not of 2nd degree murder. Asshatery comes to mind.

EVERY Jury handling any criminal trial needs to be informed the constitution guarantees them the right to decide the verdict using plain common sense reguardless of what evidence is presented--(and witheld)--or what a defense or prosecuting attorney tells them they must do.

They DONT have to be some unwitting tool of so called "justice".
