Red light runners.....

I'm seeing many more people running red lights going twice the speed limit. It seems like most of them are trucks; pick up trucks on up to full size eight ton delivery trucks and everything in between. They don't have a problem playing russian roulette with our lives......

ya i see at least 5 cars blowing through a red at every light i stop at. cops wont do **** about it even if theyre sitting at the intersection themselves. some of the lights have red light cameras but since everyone in my area drives without papers i guess theyre exempt from tickets. kinda makes me want to drive an old Cadillac Hearst so i have a lil cushion around me.

There are also many right turn on red violations. Huge numbers of people don't stop before their turn and many hardly slow down. This endangers pedestrians.

When Kalif changed the red lite timing to (however many) seconds before your lite turns green, the idiots quickly figured out how far back they could be & still "safely!" run their red lites. Look out!

I admit to having intentionally done it many times when I lived in the Washington D.C. suburbs. A traffic light at EVERY city intersection just is an unreasonable impediment to progress.

Now, living in the boonies, we don't have stop lights but we do have stop signs. With a clear sight line and no hazards to yourself or anyone else, I say go for it.

Runnin' red lights is sorta like the post I made about the St. Louis cops playing russian roulette with a hand gun. You might get away with it right up until that 10 ton diesel powered dump truck coming from the left speeding through at 80 mph suddenly and abruptly catches you by SURPRISE.

Can you say OOPSIE??

Actually we do have quite a few 10 ton (or more) dump trucks running the country roads around here. The biggest hazard they present is the blind curves, not the occasional stop sign.

Most of our stop signs are at 2-lane intersections with plenty of clear sight line distance so yes corney Damn the Law when there is no logical reason for stopping. I'll bet you use your turn signals religiously even when there is no-one to signal to.

OK. So, now its ok to run red lights?

We should start on a list of laws that are ok to disregard, , , , (traffic laws first?)

Corney, you do whatever you think is right and so will I. I don't recall faulting anyone for their choices.

The other day, I was coming into my neighborhood. There are virtually no speed limit signs posted although most people are aware the speed limit is 25 mph. As I was coasting along at 25, my mind began to think.

What if a young child suddenly and unexpectedly darted out into the street chasing a ball? I'm not sure 25 MPH is slow enough, I backed down to 20.........

That said, I've seen more than a few traveling at 60 MPH+++ Should a child suddenly dart out into the street or an older man or woman walk in front of them, I seriously doubt their foot would make it to hit the brakes in time......

Back to the OP, we have a few traffic lights around here on the one half mile marker. In other words they are located halfway between major intersections. I've noticed these are "blind" intersections in that homeowners have allowed hedges to grow up and block the view or there are large fences blocking the view, especially for traffic coming from the left.

I've noticed big trucks regularly blow the red lights traveling 50 MPH+++ coming down the main thoroughfare..........

As a result, I am now trying to exit the neighborhood going out onto the main street TURNING RIGHT ONLY from non-traffic light controlled entrances....

My friend's kid was hit tonight by a red light runner. The person ended up leaving the scene, and the kid called his parents and me. I made it to him first, made sure he was ok, and handed it all over to the parents when they got there. They drove to the police station to file a report, and the runner's cousin comes in, claiming someone hit her cousin and ripped the bumper off. The cops ended picking up her cousin, bringing her in, and filing a report for insurance for my friend's son.

This town is nothing like it was 10 years ago...too much has changed, and the people running roughshod over things is insane. I can hardly wait for the law to finally get sick of it all, and begin enforcing every little thing, and run off the crime.

Sorry, folks...if there's a law, don't break it. Don't run stop signs, and don't speed...it's not your life I'm concerned about, it's the others that share the road.

The REAL problem with red light runners is they can hit you in the side. I'd much rather be hit from the rear or front, especially in a benz. Being hit in the side is another matter altogether. You can EASILY die from a red light runner hitting you in the side traveling at 60 MPH.

I've seen cars flip UPSIDE down from getting hit from the side!!!
