If that were the case, removing the oil filler or dipstick while idling would immediately screw up the cars idle.

I think it's the MC as well, but I'd try power bleeding the brakes again first. If that doesn't help, it should be the MC.

IIRC, the tach signal is also what tells the fuel pump relay that the engine is running and that it should continue to pump fuel. ergo... no signal, no fuel.

Then as Ron says, there are vent hoses and a plastic expansion tank, all which may have leaks.

In my case the leak was a screw...

IIRC that's the same way it worked on my '87 Ford...
