Peanut Butter worked !

Hello Folks,

I read a post a fellow wrote that advised using Peanut Butter to add shine to tired gray door handles. I had to try it, applied the goo on one side of the car to see if I could notice the difference, Wiped it off and drove to a corner service station to do the comparison under the lights as it is dark here(8:20PM) in Houston, Texas. And sure enough the treated handles looked great , well do the other side tomorrow..

Thanks for the tip,,,

Juan

Maybe I'm overlooking something obvious here (but I don't think so). . .wouldn't it be easier to use some peanut oil on a cloth?

Just my .124 cents.

peanut butter !

OK,
I just went out to finally try the peanut butter,
after making sure the neighbors weren't looking (they already wonder why/how we have 3 mercedes)
I smeared the peanut butter over all 4 door handles,
(I used "Adams 100% natural" creamy.)
hosed it off,and YES YES YES! they look like new!
so I did the 300TD,
beautiful!
I noticed that the 123 (82 300td) had black handles and the 126 '85 380se) has grey?
anyway, another great tip from this website.
I'm doing "Guide Rod Bushings" tomorrow, and I still dont have my 126 service books!
wish me luck, and any tips tonight appreciated!

Oh boy.... another place those of us who are deathly alergic to peanuts must watch for.

And I always thought it would be the spicey chinese food that would get it through my defenses. Now I'm going to have respiratory problems after a hard days work.

Use chunky peanut butter to bring out the "grain" .

Seriously, great idea! I always wondered what I could use, as the 300E AND the ML have seriously graying door handles and moulding...

Lets think about the guy that discovered this. . .what do you suppose he was smoking, or doing, that led him to smear peanut butter on auto parts?

I wonder what else he smeared it on that didn't elicit such favorable results.

The mind boggles.

:p

I filled in a door ding with Skippy (smooth) and painted over it; looks great! I'm now adding a cup of Jif to my engine oil to smooth out valvetrain clatter.

My neighbor claims that chunky peanut butter spread over the tire treads will put Blizzak's to shame on icy roads, but I'm a bit skeptical on that one.

Cool

OK, here's one more use of peanut butter: it removes chewing gum from MB rugs, MB upholstery, and young MB passenger's hair.

Yup, sounds crazy, trust me, the darn stuff works!!

Yeah, I put it on once, but the squirrels ate my door handles off. I guess you could say that my fading door handle problem has been eliminated.

If George Washington Carver were alive today, he would marvel at the various uses of his discovery!

This has been a Black History moment...

Peanut butter - and Candles

Want another good one?? I read on a post on a VW web site how to get rusted bolts loose. Normally we spray rust loosening chemical on and tap with a hammer or heat the nut to a dull red. The first one sometimes works and the last one cannot be used where there is combustibles near by. The site suggested warming the nut and bolt to a temperture that would melt wax and rubbing a candle over the end of the threads so the wax would flow into the nut. The bolt would then come off easily. I had a situation that the rust loosening spray did not work, I heated the bolt and nut - rubbed the candle onto the end and--- it worked great!! I use this method now and have not had one nut that it did not loosen!!

Talking Peanut Not Magic Bullet...

I'm dyin' here. This is one of the funniest threads I've ever read...

For Steve Brotherton, you can always use almond, cashew, or hazelnut butter. And I think the oils will work as well as the peanut butter without making your neighbors think you've lost your mind as they watch you smear Skippy on your Mercedes' door handles. But just think how nutz they will think you are when you'r putting it in the grille. They might assume that you are trying to "feed" your Mercedes...

If you want to be extra chic, you could always opt for truffle oil...

As for the candle wax on the bolt trick, I've been using paraffin to loosen up window casings and drawers that don't slide smoothly for years, but it never occurred to me that it would work for rusted bolts...

Here's a contribution from me. Using regular old lighter fluid (naptha) will remove stickers, and the sticky residue left behind, as well as remove grease spots from cloth upholstery (when you blot), remove some hard water deposits, and will also loosen rusted nuts and bolts. Also, if you want to strip paint from plastic and fibreglass with out damaging it with a paint stripper, you can use regular oven cleaner to remove the paint without harming the surface. While paint stripper has solvents that will disolve the plastic, and damage the fibreglass, the oven cleaner is just a highly alkaline cleaning substance so it won't cause harm, but will disolve the paint. I've used it for years on everything from motorcycle side covers and helmets to boat hulls.
