Yes he was a Moose! He loved it and it gave him another place to connect with people. He loved karaoke like it was nobody's business! As far back as I can remember he was either belting it out while he played the piano or was singing his favorites with his beloved karaoke machine. You all should have seen how his fingers danced across a piano. He played by ear and he was so good that he played in night clubs as a young man. I loved to sit on the bench next to him and marvel. He was so musically talented. He was also artistically talented. He did a pencil sketch of my mom and I when I was 7 years old that puts other artists to shame. I swear there was nothing he couldn't do. My husband always said he had never seen so much talent given to one person. I had always wished my dad would have had the chance to go to college. With his people skills and true affection and interest in them I thought he would have made a great counselor. However, I can now see that this right here, was where he needed to be. He loved cars! I must have been the only 5 year old girl that knew model and make of all the cars on the road. You should have seen how dismayed he was when I told him at 16 that I wanted my first car to be a 1969 VW Bug. I swear, he never tried so hard to talk me out of something in my life. I should have listened, it was a piece of junk. I really miss my dad...

Phil

Its very sad coming into the office knowing I will not be able to have my daily phone huddle with him. Phil was one of the most caring and genuine people I have had the pleasure of knowing and working with.

Its great to see how many people Phil has touched over the years and that goes to show that Phil will never actually be gone because his memory lives through all of you.

This is sad news indeed. I had not met Phil in person, but the few times we spoke on the phone and via email, he was amazingly friendly and helpful. A real asset to the community, he will be missed. My condolences.

Here's the kind of guy Phil was, and this was typical: I called up one time because I wasn't sure if I had the right part number for some W123 door checks. I gave him the number, and he looked it up; yeah, those would work, he said, but they cost $89. You could get these other ones for $27, and they'd work just as well. So I went with the lower price ones, which weren't yet on the web page, and they worked fine. Amazing guy.

Fill up for Phil

I donated the price of a full tank of diesel. If everyone on the forum did that it would add up to quite a bit.

I've been distracted from the MBZ scene for a little while -- a 1941 Buick straight-8 has been the object of my recent mechanical efforts -- but on the way in to work this morning, my '76 w115 300D brake pedal started feeling intermittently mooshy. I thought, "It's time to check with Phil on a new master cylinder..."

My heart sank when I pulled up peachparts.com just now and saw the sad news. Phil genuinely made you feel like you were his only customer and he would carefully talk with you about which parts were the good ones at the best value. He didn't know me from Adam, but every time I called to get the scoop on a difficult part, I hung up smiling like I had just talked to a good friend.

I will donate for his memorial after I sleep on this tonight. EDIT: I liked 300sdToronto's idea and did the same; that's a good place for us to start.

Take care, you guys. I am so sorry.

-Dan

We lost a Good Soul and Friend

My sincere condolences to family and friends. Phil always gave 120% to make sure the customer got the parts and service they needed.

I'm still in shock.

He will be missed by everyone he touched.

Condolences. Sad moment.

Phil was an enjoyable person on the phone and made buying parts a very nice experience.
I am certain he beamed such positive vibe with his family.

My deepest condolences to the Reinhardt family.

I spoke with Phil, many, many times and he always made me feel like I was the only customer he had. He treated me just the same if I was looking for an obscure $2 bolt or a $400 heater core. I always got off the phone with Phil feeling happier than when I had called. His warmth was infectious.

Wow I'm shocked. My condolences. Phil played a major part in the development of Samson, the M120 powered 560SL.

He will surly be missed.

Phil was great to deal with . He sold me a boat load of parts for my 69 Coupe when I first bought it and has been helpful and a pleasure to deal with ever since. I feel very sad to hear of his passing. RIP Phil.....

i experienced the same treatment from Phil as the rest of the folks on this site. he always helped with my 300D, and then when i took the plunge and bought a 56 220s, i think Phil was more excited than i was. we would spend days picking apart parts diagrams and throwing around parts numbers and somehow he would keep it organized and always respond kindly. He would always tell me " i work for you, you know that and i want to make sure you get the best deal". he was awesome and always a pleasure to talk with, he will be missed by all in this community and my heart and prayers go out to his family and fiancee.

Please everyone make a contribution to help his family out in this time of grief, let them grief without the financial burdens that face them. Phil was a great guy and even though we never met he was truly a friend. Rest in Peace. Phil

much love DA
