Another yet issue about Mobil 1 ? I think it's an emotional issue to most of you guys. Since MB recommends Mobil 1,(only because of the contract) everybody thinks it's the best. Mobil 1 was "found" (developed) years back and never changed or improved. Castrol only recently came up with Syntec, its active formula and it sure is better. I called Mobil hot line, and they had nothing spectacular to say about it. Sorry maybe except that lots of companies use it and it's in most stores. So what does it mean ? It's all matter of promotions, contracts and rebates that oil distributing companies are getting from Mobil 1
Castrol in my opinion, does not have to advertise it's product. It is known to most people all over the world and especially in Europe. I always used Syntec and now I use their newest product "Magnatec" which I bet is way better than Mobil 1. Castrol Magnatec gives you the ultimate protection. For references please check Castrol's web site, read a little and come up with your own conclusion. ps. Do you really see what they put in your crankcase ??? I hope, I didn't upset anyone.

mobil
Remember the factory race teams use it. From Cart to F-1 to DTM to ralley racing. I use it in my 500E. I belive in it. My engine runs realy smooth. Even if you do burn a little oil,the viscosity of mobil compensate and still has a smooth running condition. The reason I made this point.with the other oils I would feel my engine rough through actually the gas pedal. It sounds nuts but I know cars and espcially mine.

don't change the oil so frequently....
Synthetics don't need to be changed so often. A synthetic won't lose any of its properties after 5000 miles. You could change every 7500 miles and still be safe.

Well MBNA is sure convinced you can change it at 15k and you'll still be safe! What does that mean?
I don't know either!

Does anyone know how many litre of mobil 1 or engine oil does the W202 C280 required?also which type of mobil 1 is better for C280? 15W-40?15W-50? I live in Vancouver, BC Canada. Also there seems to be no information for 15W-40 on the mobil website, but my dealer told me to get the 15W-40 one. IS there really no 15W-40? if no, which one should I get instead?

C280 takes between 7.5 and 8 quarts of oil.

peter210,
Tell me more about Castrol "Magnatec". I've always been a fan of Castrol products. I've used both GTX and Syntec in my cars and have been very happy with either...though I prefer Syntec more. Castrol "Magnatec" isn't mentioned on the Castrol website. It must be rather new. An interesting situation that I'd like to share with all. Recently bought my 1st MB, a 1987 300E/W124. The car came with a fresh oil change, Kendall 10w30. Though I'm not a big Kendall fan, it was a fresh oil change, and I was happy with that. The car runs beautifully, but I thought it was a little too hot.......90 to 100 degrees C. I recently changed the oil, to Castrol GTX 10w30, and the car now runs cooler......80 to 85 degrees. Coincidence? I don't think so. Castrol is a superior product. Is Mobil 1 a fine product? Absolutely. Is it better than Castrol Syntec? Probably not. In the end, who cares? All that matters is that you use a good product that makes your cars run well and stay healthy! Castrol certainly does that for my cars. IMHO Primo |
