Update on my rebuilt 300D (new problem: transmission)

Well, I haven't been posting much lately because I have been enjoying my 300D, driving it around town, to work and back. As some of you may remember I rebuilt the motor last year. It burns no oil, it's got a new radiator and radiator tank, and the transmission got the new filter and Mobil1 ATF for like $8 a quart.

Well, yesterday on my way home, all of a sudden transmission just quit on me. No 'D', 'S' or 'L', no 'Reverse'. Just nothing.

It's not the linkage because if I put it in Park, I can tell that it's in park.
It's not that splined triangular-like thing where the drive shaft goes (I climbed under the car and the driveshaft was where it should be)

My wife (god bless her) towed me home (with a pickup truck and a tow rope) - yea she's a keeper I know.

One interesting thing is - on the way home, if I put the transmission in D while being towed and give it some gas, I could tell the car would surge forward. Maybe this was not a good thing to try, but I couldn't resist it, and the motor was running anyway. So, it's like the tranny engages if the car is already moving (25+ mph) but not if the car is not moving. Don't know if this is significant or not.

What do you guys think?

Update: I will look for transmission numbers when I get home from work today.
