how easy should it be to turn motor over by hand
starting to strip the motor down that i have in preperation for a motor swap into my toyota 4x4. when i turn the motor over with the crank bolt and a normal 1/2 inch drive torque wrnch it seems way easy. i can feel each compression stroke and i did a compression test before i tore into it- all were at 350. a little blow by but with the oil cap test, no amout of revs will blow the cap off.
please chime in people what are your experiences? |

That seems about right. A torque wrench is easily 16" long, so that is a lot of leverage. If you are not sure how long ago a valve adjustment was done, it would be a good thing to do. It may increase the compression if any are tight.

valves are dialed in... thanks, i thought it would be harder to turn over than my 22re

nah, it's fairly easy to spin at low speeds, as in, wrenching...

I was spinning mine over last night with a 12" wrench and wondered about the ease of turning it, with little blowby but due for a valve adjustment. Good to hear that they're not real hard to spin with a wrench.

I understand a torque wrench can be knocked out of calibration if used for such purposes. I'm not trying to get in your business just trying to learn.

That's a good precaution... but the torque/force of turning over an engine is waaaaaaay lower than torquing to spec.
