I just bought parts from Pelican Parts because....

Because they had the best quality at the chapest price with FREE shipping AND accepted paypal.

This makes me very happy, historically Phil was not the cheapest by a long shot. Now with Rusty closed, my local WorldPac is pretty expensive which has left me shopping with Auto haus az.

But today, a new era for me!

For 90% of the parts I buy, they're the cheapest. Any discrepancy is maybe $2, so no big deal.

The main reason I shop here though, is the forum, and they always get the order right, and can get you all the weird stuff. My Mercedes brand head bolt socket makes me smile

I shop at Pelican because they host the diesel forum. I like how Pelican will actually read something in the "special instructions" section of the order.

the "order status" link in the upper right hand corner is especially user friendly as well. Many online retailers its kind of a pain to sign in, go through all the hoops to get to where your stuff is. The tracking situation for pelican/peach is one of the most intuitive and easy to use ive encountered.

I love just punching in an email, and a zip, and getting my status

Rusty closed? What happened?

I usually buy here as well to support the forum but I will sometimes buy from the house of autos in az too. They have been cheaper but since Pelican took over the prices here have become much more reasonable.

Rusty sold the business to someone else. I ordered from the new guy twice in the last few months. Nice guy.

But when I needed shocks for my wife's 1995 E300 a few weeks ago, he wouldn't pick up the phone or return the four messages I left. An automated voice mail greeting said they were going through changes in the website and sales department.

They lost my business after the fourth call went unanswered.

I miss Rusty and Phil. The PP guy couldn't even get the right part and didn't seem to care. I eventually went through FC P and they were quite helpful. No Mercedes expertise, but they did what I asked.

The online parts sales business is evolving and I think small-scale operations like RustyParts have been left behind, though his former partner JabbatheHurst was still operating that way last time I checked.

Plug for Pelican-PeachParts: A while back I posted a rant calling them out on my experience trying to put together a cart to ship to Canada. Specifically, I was only offered expedited 3-day courier shipping, which to Canada is like $87 on a medium size box of parts.

I never got any reply, but for the hell of it I went back a few days ago and tried it again. Either they made changes, or my first experience was a glitch. In any event, this time I was given a series of options including postal delivery, which is fine.

Moreover, the site also popped up a dialog window that warned me that choosing FoolEx Ground or Uncooperative Parcel Service would result in significant import charges from the courier company, payable on arrival.

Thank you on behalf of all those Canucks whose lives that warning will make much easier. I have been ordering out of the States for years and know the courier BS all too well. Many first time shoppers get stung and then blame the vendor (yet this is the first time I have seen a vendor post the warning).

Thanks for that.

I try to buy from PP and I do sometimes. I was going to place an order the other day until the "free shipping" turned into "let's split your order and charge you $11 to ship an oil cooler hose." It happens almost every time I place an order. I don't see why I should pay shipping because something is stocked elsewhere. Spend $xx.xx and get free shipping means just that. You bill me $xx.xx and I don't pay shipping no matter where it is shipped from.

I do like the form and I appreciate the sponsorship but when it comes to parts orders, I am on a tight budget. $10 is a nice lunch for me, so I try to be frugal and spend the money in the right places.

I buy from a variety of sources depending on my needs. (Heck, I even found a reliable supplier for genuine Bosch MAF assemblies on ebay, though I'm usually loathe to buy anything for a benz off ebay.)

One thing I like about Pelican Parts is they usually offer a few different brands and have competitive prices.

Plus, so far as I've seen, they don't sell URO. That means I can recommend them to others without any concern.

Observation:

When adding a part to the cart it would be extremely helpful to advise me of the expected delivery date at that time, instead of when finalizing the order. Sometimes when the car is down I will bite the bullet and go to the dealer directly in order to get the car on the road the quickest.

And I don't like the split shipping charges either. Free Shipping means just that, $0.

Pelican is not the Host, they own Peachparts Forum.

I remember talking to Phil many times when trying to figure a part or something with an order. he was very knowledgable about the MB`s and where to source a part besides what was shown on the catalog.
Sure miss him.

Except for Roy, we don`t have anyone now that has that experience. I ordered a few time from Pelican, and one guy I talked to was a BMW guy and not anything to do with MB`s. they also work from their homes, not at Pelican World Headquarters in Southen Cal. So they only go by what is on the screen in front of them.

My first order at Pelican, I had to fill out all the shipping, credit card etc...info like I had never bought from the Forum. nothing carried over from Fastlane. seemed kind of strange. I did have a split oreder as I remember one time and had to pay shipping.

I bought a few time from the AZ site, you know that is a Woman owned Business? I needed the front Sway bar Bushings for a TD, and they were $33 from Phil, (maybe he had to get them from a Dealer?) AZ had them for $3 ea. the sedan Bushings were about $3 ea at the time. so where to buy, HMMMM?

I use to buy from Rusty before I discovered any of the Forums, and haven't bought from him since.
I got an e-mail last year when he sold his business to another guy.

I can understand if the guy wont answer a call...............see ya.

Important News
03/06/2013
It's been fun! Well folks, the last 28 years have certainly been entertaining, but now I have an opportunity that I can't decline. One of my largest vendors has made me an offer to work with them in a capacity that I can't refuse. So after 28 years of self employment, as of 03/08/2013, I am joining the ranks of corporate America. I can't tell you how tough a decision this has been, but I know that I am making the right choice and moving forward in my life. I have made many friends in this end of the business and I will miss all of you. I know that there are many people selling Mercedes parts today and I am glad that you chose me to be your supplier. I have sold buyMBparts,Inc. to Trent Fiorini and he going to do a magificent job replacing me. If anyone has any questions, I will be happy to answer them for you. My personal cell number is 770-490-7320. You can call me anytime and if I don't answer, please leave a message and I will return your call. My new email address will be rustycullens@gmail.com. Again, thank you so much for the chance to serve you, I hope that I did well. Please stay in touch if you want to. I hope everyone has a great 2013 and beyond!

I asked Trent to give you some insight into him and here is what he wants to say:

"Some of you may have known and some may not, but Rusty has decided to go on with the next chapter in his life and I, Trent Fiorini, will be taking over Rusty's business. To all the many loyal customer's Rusty has helped all these years, you have my guarantee that Rusty's standard of customer service will continue to be met. I am following a man of experience, a friend to many of you.
Rusty has high expectations for me to maintain. He has dedicated 28 years to his business and to his customers. I will not let him or his customers down. I won't be as quick as Rusty at first, but I will learn quickly. I want to thank Rusty for trusting me and giving me this opportunity to serve you. You can remain to feel confident that buyMBparts. Inc. will be here for you with the highest quality parts, the expected customer service and the best possible price, just as it has always been. I look forward to working with all of you."

Trent Fiorini

Trent is taking over the web site, email and phone numbers that we have used since the begining so the only change will be his voice and mine! Once again, thanks to everyone and please continue to support Trent and buyMBparts, Inc.

I was going to order my filters from here, but then I went to the O'Reilly site.....and found I could drive one block, get the same brand filters and have them today for 15$ cheaper....that was even with the 10% sales tax here....

I do like that they carry a few odd ball parts that can't be found else where but I do most of my business with az...

I love the forum, will probably get band for saying it, but I hate that we can't point people to parts on az or msource....can't even include their names.....there are few parts that can be found on both sites that aren't on this one....

The shipping thing is one very aggravating problem with PP and it has caused me to place one or two orders with another vendor simply to save $10 on shipping.

I also had issues with orders (@PP) from various places, some included the free shipping, some did not. I ordered enough to get the "free" shipping, didn't happen.

My local dealer was close enough (price wise) on MOST parts, I used them. 45 minute drive one way, but they have the stuff the next day, or on hand.

Businesses must do what's necessary to survive, so do I.
