You should have stuck to cars.

And I'm sure you've heard this many times but i'll say it again, coming from you it means nothing.

My grandfather was a deputy sheriff in the 40's or 50's here in central IL. He once stopped a sedan headed north out of town for speeding, and asked to see the tag for the deer the guys had strapped on the roof. The passengers were pleasant enough, and even opened the trunk at his request... to reveal the Thompsons and other submachine guns they used to hunt their game. They were Chicago folks who came "downstate" for the weekend to hunt and had no idea that they oughn't be using machine guns to do so.

C'mon guys, play nice. Nothing wrong with owning guns. Surely we can all agree on that, no? Why is everyone so worried about others choices? If someone wants to shoot black powder, so be it. If they "suck," explain why... just like MedMech tried explaining why they DON'T suck.

wow got some replies to this thread.

i can't imagine more power than the 7.62x54 bullets i am using. anything more than that is probably too much for me. after about 30 rounds my shoulder is all bruised up. call me a pussy, or maybe i just need a butt pad? its just the metal butt plate vs my shoulder. i got the mosin for pretty cheap so i will stick a scope and see how acurate it is.

I handeled a Walther P99 and its my favorite so far (for hand guns). fits so nice in my hand.

i was gonna get a Ruger 10/22 today cause i didn't realize how cheap the ammo is. 8 bucks for 500 rounds!! i always wanted one with a bullpup stock. but the whole thing would come out to around $280, so i thought an SKS would be cheaper/better. i think over time the ammo cost would make the 10/22 a cheaper fun.

so at walmart today it was either a ruger 10/22 or a mossberg 500 12 ga. i end up not buying either one

The Ruger 10/22 is available in 22 mag. ammo isn't as cheap but .22 mag is much more fun @ 100 yds.

I am going to save up for an M1 Garand from the Civilian Marksmanship Program next. They have some nice deals on decent shooters. Until I can afford an M1911 .45 (or the BAR is legalized) that will make me happy. I would love to own most of the American WWII individual weapons. An '03 Springfield would be neat too.

The great thing about the M1 is access to competitions is much better than other rifles. The M1 shooters exhibit nice manners and are helpful to new shooters. You can also compete on the 1000 range which is the most fun IMO.

Plus the ammo is cheap.

the bullpup stock i was gonna get might not take the parts of the 22mag. i need to look into it. those 22 sure sound like cap guns so more gun powder is always welcomed i guess.

how bad are those uzi looking 9mm handguns (the $200-$300 semi auto ones)? and is it ghetto of me for wanting one?
