I've never really been a pistol kind of guy, I guess if I had to choose the 1911A1. I like rifles because of that reach out and touch someone ability.

I hope someday I'll inherit my dad's 9mm service pistol that he wore in Desert Storm. I guess they told him to keep it when he retired. Lucky for us (family) he never had to use it! I wish he still had his .45 from Vietnam...

how bad are those uzi looking 9mm handguns (the $200-$300 semi auto ones)? and is it ghetto of me for wanting one?
Those are pretty ghetto in my opinion. They are too heavy to fire for extended periods of time and the ergonomics are poor. Their construction is cheap and the accuracy isn't there. Unless it's a Class III and then it's good for making cool dust clouds

If it is a 9mm that you want, and since this is a Mercedes forum....the BEST pistol is the German H&K P7M8 pistol....it is on the expensive side but the ergonomics are excellent and it has a cold hammer forged barrel which Glock copied Only 3 parts in a disassembly and there's no safety

Do you mean the Tec-9? Some people may enjoy it but I find that continuous non-tactical pistol or rifle fire gets boring fast.

If you just want to get a gun and want to target shoot try that Mossberg 500 and a trap shooter.

Add a bayonet barrel band and solid wood handguard and it'll be indistinguishable from a GI M-1!
I have a friend who was a Seabee in WWII. Made several landings in the Pacific island hopping. Neat old fart in his 90's now. Started work as a teenager roughnecking in the oilfields of east TX. Still sharp and physically able to help his sons work on cars and stuff. Not much stamina and nearly deaf, even with a big amplifier.

Anyway, the old bird stole his M1 carbine and brought it home after the war.

i can't imagine more power than the 7.62x54 bullets i am using. anything more than that is probably too much for me. after about 30 rounds my shoulder is all bruised up. call me a pussy, or maybe i just need a butt pad? its just the metal butt plate vs my shoulder. i got the mosin for pretty cheap so i will stick a scope and see how acurate it is.

I handeled a Walther P99 and its my favorite so far (for hand guns). fits so nice in my hand.

i was gonna get a Ruger 10/22 today cause i didn't realize how cheap the ammo is. 8 bucks for 500 rounds!! i always wanted one with a bullpup stock. but the whole thing would come out to around $280, so i thought an SKS would be cheaper/better. i think over time the ammo cost would make the 10/22 a cheaper fun.

so at walmart today it was either a ruger 10/22 or a mossberg 500 12 ga. i end up not buying either one
I have a 10/22 that I stuck a cheap-ass Chicom scope on and use it for squirrel hunting. Kiss if death at 50 - 75 yards. In the olden days I could did that with a Williams peep sight on my old .22 Savage single shot. When I had eyes. The 10/22 is sweet, but the stock length is a bit short for a man, IMO. What I'd really like is an old Remington Speedmaster. My hunting partner had one when we were kids and that thing was stone reliable and death on a fast-moving squirrel. It had a stock for a man-sized person, too.

When I was buying my carbine there was an old fellow in there watching me look it over. He lamented that he had brought back a Japanese battle rifle from the Pacific but that someone had stolen it a couple of years ago. I felt so bad. Granted, those things aren't worth much, but what a crap thing to do. Stealing is wrong no matter how you cut it, but an elderly veteran's memories!?!? Sheesh... hope karma catches up with the thief. Maybe the bolt will blow back into his eye when he tries to shoot it.

My grandpa has a few M1's but my uncle will make sure they make it to his side of the table so I can kiss those baby's good bye.

The M1 is about where I stop with military rifles, I got the Colt AR15 for free, new in box with match barrel so I took it. If you are into home defense get a SPAS-12 or Bennelli Super 90 with 8 shot mag. a folding stock carbine is about as useful as Biodiesel in a sl55.

My wife is fairly proficient with the guns I think she would have no problem against average joe, if she's defending her children Delta Force would be in trouble.

Home defense? Double barrel 12 ga shotgun with short barrels. No technology to overcome fumbling around in the dark except a safety and a spread that will ruin whatever is in front of the gun. I don't care what you load in it, but 00 buck in a 3 in mag makes a hell of a hole and a lot of racket. Inside of a house, the guy on the receiving end is gonna be either deaf and covered in his own urine or real f'd-up.

Please boys, don't saw that sucker off too short, Mr BATF no likee and it just ain't worth it.
