I'm sorry? Were they breaking the law and facing a member of the executive branch? What nugget have I missed that makes the officers at fault for a bunch of UC students inability to protest in a legal manner? If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen. Simple.

I mean, considering I don't know them in any capacity other than UC student protesters, I couldn't make the judgement call on whether or not they should be culled. Maybe one is a convicted pedophile? Maybe one is a serial killer? Or maybe they're just young college students.

I'm a 20 year old with enough sense to go through the channels of least opposition. These kids swam upstream and got their butts handed to them.

The channels of least opposition sometimes don't work. Democracy has been broken for a long time in this country -- count ourselves lucky that there hasn't been an actual revolution yet, but if the state keeps upping the violence quotient, it may end up that way.

China would have gotten out their tanks by now. Smart protestors quit protesting when the tanks come into play.

Worked in China. Didn't work in Egypt. Mubarak will probably end up hanged by the neck until dead inside of a year.

I fully agree. I'm expecting the revolution any day now, no lie. Unfortunately, it seems that or a coup d'etat is the only way we'll purge the system.

I don't always follow the easiest path legally; I speed on the interstate and never complain when I get pulled over for going 75 in a 65. I just stay courteous and have never received a ticket. Respect goes both ways, I suppose.

I think tjts1 already answered those questions.

There are accepted police procedures for handling this type of situation and there are methods that fall outside the accepted range. For example, asking politely would be outside the accepted range because it would be ineffective. Opening fire with automatic weapons would be effective, but perhaps a bit over the line in the other direction. The correct balance is somewhere in between. My guess is that the pepper spray method does not strike the correct balance. You seem to think otherwise, but the reasoning you've provided so far is not persuasive, IMHO.

I'd rather not have one, but the powers that be and police are doing everything in their power to aggravate the situation and give OWS more publicity.

Sorry, they deserve what they got and more. I have no sympathy for them. As I said, protest in a legal fashion if you want to. I will support your right. Force your protest on others and I support any force that goes out to crush you. I suppose next you are going to feel sorry for a guy that gets shot breaking into a bank?

Let's say that the law is changed to forbid all public demonstrations. Would you then tell the demonstrators to "protest in a legal fashion?"

Blind obedience to the law is the philosophy of either an imbecile or a fascist.

The whiners need to stop whining, and get a job. I might have thought protesting the way they do was appropriate when I was younger, but until you've lived long enough to understand you are the only one responsible for YOU, then you have no credibility in my book.

The kids of the 80s and 90s are the kids grew up playing on soccer teams that didn't keep score, and in elementary schools that didnt give grades because to assign the terms "win or lose" or "pass or fail" to a child would surely harm their poor, delicate senses, and it's unfair to let one kid have something another one doesn't have.

You're seeing this level of absurdity play out now in the form of the Occupy movement, because a few loudmouth babies who have never had to create their own success started whining because they weren't handed jobs on a silver platter after college, and a bunch of their generational peers blindly jumped on the bandwagon because it sounded like a good idea.

Am I saying the majority of these protesters are incompetent failures at life? Yes, and the evidence is in the fact that the movement doesnt even have a single damned argument or theme, ZERO organized call to action and ZERO direction.

This is assuming that the only cause of the protestors is "get me a job." As you said, there are many causes. How about the failure of the democratic system that got Bush into office the second time? Or taxes vs wars vs inflation? Or the fact that we're spending on wars and bailouts and giving lip service to infrastructure and education? Reform is needed, and badly at that.

BTW - I played on a soccer team that certainly DID keep score. In the 80s and 90s
