How did this become a question about shoe brands?

What would have been wiser from the university's perspective: to be patient for awhile and let this situation fizzle out, or to have some fatarse strut around with a can of pepper spray while his actions were being recorded by approximately 50 smartphone cams?

Do you think that the police would have handled this situation differently if they forsaw the fallout from this debacle? Do you believe that the police have zero discretion as to how and when to apply the law under these circumstances?

Penny loafers are liberal?

I have three pairs of Merrills now. All are brown. MY wingtips are in the closet from 20 years ago when I stopped wearing them because of planar facia problems.

I can only wear lace up shoes because I have wide feet but narrow heels.

The merrills are constructed in a way that allows me to get the left one lifted to compensate for the right leg made 3/4" longer by my incompetent hip replacement surgeon.

For me shoes are about function without looking too unprofessional.

So are Merrills pinko liberal shoes too?

What are conservative shoes, those loafers with the little leather tassles on them? (Always looked kindof girly to me).

That has been a highly contentious issue, in both France and the US: The Politicization of Tasseled Loafers - New York Times

That was interesting. It sounds like neither the left nor the right has a lock on the tasselled loafer.

Woman pepper-sprayed adults, kids at Wal-Mart sale, police say
Authorities are searching for a woman accused of pepper-spraying other shoppers Thursday night at the Wal-Mart in Porter Ranch so that she could grab more discounted merchandise.

Twenty customers, including children, were hurt in the 10:10 p.m. incident, officials said. Shoppers complained of minor skin and eye irritation and sore throats.

"This was customer-versus-customer 'shopping rage,'" said Los Angeles Police Lt. Abel Parga.

The woman used the spray in more than one area of the Wal-Mart "to gain preferred access to a variety of locations in the store," said Los Angeles Fire Capt. James Carson.

"She was competitive shopping," he said.

You see? Theres nothing wrong with a little pepper spray in the face in order to get what you want. This could be the beginning of a good trend.

The wisdom of youth. Making broad assumptions about people in a fuzzy video on the basis of their shoes. More proof that youth is wasted on the young.

Yes, my guard stood hard when abstract threats
Too noble to neglect
Deceived me into thinking
I had something to protect
Good and bad, I define these terms
Quite clear, no doubt, somehow
Ah, but I was so much older then
I’m younger than that now

35 year old White's lace-up 16" packers with 2 inch heels. Had 'em custom built for my birthday roughly 15 years before floppysnake was even a gleam in his sire's eye. Made in America. Got a set of buzzworm bite marks on the left shank about 3 inches above the ankle. You know, a real snake. Going to ride the fence in a few minutes. By the wisdom of youth, that makes me a $&it-heeled bubba redneck.

Please feel free to discount my insight due to youth; although I expect the same towards the kids in the first post of this thread

Case in point.

No question, they are as naive as you, and don't know it either.

I checked out of this thread for a while. I just looked over the last three pages or so.

Shoes? I'm alternating a pair of old Red Wings and a pair of GI Belleville desert boots that refuse to wear out. Never thought of them as a political statement

As for the direction of college campuses all I can say is they vary. I graduated in 2004 from a school that was (my guestimate) about 50% too busy to worry about politics, 25% Republican, and 25% Libertarian. The College Democrats numbered about a half dozen dejected looking individuals. I would say this is probably not representative of your average college campus.

As for the protestors and the cops, I haven't studied the matter in detail. I'm thinking it was probably excessive force, that the cops, probably their chief, and possibly others in the university organization will be getting the axe. However, I'm running low on GAF (Give A, um Feeling) and don't care very much about it.
