Larry, with revolvers, there's no time-consuming policing of brass.

FWIW, I have a Colt SAA. It's chambered in .38-40. Nickel with stag grips. A long time ago, I looked up the numbers and it seems to have been made in the late 1800s..IIRC, 1894 or '96. It was Dad's. It was the 2nd gun he ever owned, getting it for Christmas when he was a teenager. I think his Mom purchased it at Davis Hardware in Austin. Davis is long gone, along with the idea of giving children pistols at Christmas.

I have some .38-40 brass but sort of lost interest in shooting that pistol about the time I got a muzzleloader since I would have had to score a rock chucker or a hand press to load up any ammo. MLs are so much simpler.

Funny thing about .38-40 is that it really is .38 caliber. Noticeably larger in diameter than .38 Special...which of course, is only .357 in diameter.

Dad's first pistol was a .36 caliber Remington cap & ball revolver. He found it in the Johnson's barn up in Jacksboro one summer (he might have been 810 years old and they let him keep it to play with. Lord only knows how old that thing is. The nipples were beaten flat from him dry-firing the thing as a kid but by the time I came on the scene, Dad had 'restored' it. New nipples, homemade trigger return spring, etc. I remember him once shooting it at the range and hitting a beer bottle at 87 yards. The bottle sort of crumpled in place, leaving a little pile of glass where it once stood.

He was a good shot.

When I was doing a lot of BP muzzleloading, I'd haul that pistol with me and shoot it. Fun but a PITA to clean up afterwards.

my first gun was a Ruger single six converible (22lr & 22 mag cylinders) that i bought about 40 years ago ($96.00) ~~~ a truly fun and cheap gun to shoot, especially with the 22 shorts or the 22 cb caps, which i shot a lot indoors ~~~ i don't buy anything anymore made after 1980 due to the quality difference and safety mandates ~~~ my 2nd gun was a Ruger original blackhawk in 44mag ($135), the one where you carried with the hammer on an empty cylinder, that satisfied the "more power" feel that a young buck wanted ~~~ after those it was all S&W

if you have to have a SA colt, i would get a vintage one to admire and maybe shoot on special occasions, more potential for investment than a new colt

Definitely buy new and plan to send that Single Six back to Ruger for rework. I had a Single Six and it didn't shoot worth a damn. One hole in the cylinder was off because I always had a flyer whenever I shot it...I knew it was the pistol because I can hit with my .44 flattop (same frame geometry).

Got serious about figuring it out one afternoon and went to the range with some Eley match ammo...marked the cylinder so I'd know one hole from another and sho-nuf the flyer was from the same hole each time.

It was a used piece so I just took it to the next gun show and traded it for an Izmash CM-2. The only flyers out of that CM-2 are the ones you put downrange.

That's like mine...4-digit serial number. Made in 1958. That 'no transfer bar' action gives my neighbor the absolute willies whenever we go looking for pigs. I figure that, since I haven't blown my leg off in the last 30 years, I probably know how to holster a pistol.

I recently picked this one up on a trade. Accepted it in lieu of a hundred bucks owed. It's a 1976 H and R 22/22mag with 5.5 inch bbl. Barely used with the original box. I'd seen but never owned an H and R anything and I see they haven't made handguns in a long time. It shoots great, as accurate as any and appears very well made. I have an old Ruger SS 22/22mag. Great shooter. As far as firsts are concerned, my first gun was a Remington take down single shot .410. My son has it now, he got it when he was 10.

I have a Winchester 75 target. It's a great rifle, one of my favourites. Why are you selling your?

Here's a photo of the armory.

And one of the Luger.

Sorry for the ****ty quality. The numers are 5173. It's a reliable enough shooter that I sometimes bring it as my carry gun.

Yes, the Win 75 is a great rifle. They don't make them like this anymore.
This one is a 1947 w/ matching serial#'s all original, considering the scope conversion. The target model is a bit heavy on the fore end, she is a real bench rest target shooter, highly accurate.

I had a CZ 452 in .22lr, I liked shooting it off hand w/ open sights. It's been sold, recently.

I just have too many and too little time to shoot.

I decided to consolidate, bring it down to 1 handgun + backup & a semi-auto rifle, such as a M1A or Mini 14.
We'll see what happens.

Btw, that .308 is quite a racket. I'd hate to see it go. In this time and age, where the fashion goes with all kinds of mixed quality AR's (what a frenzy), many are inapt when it comes to handling a 3/4 stock center fire short action bolt, w/ simple cross hair set in a fixed 4x glass lens (not synthetic!) & metal tube housing ... and the resemblance of the days when you could just grab a rifle on the way out together with a few quarts of motor oil from your local auto supply store. I may even keep it.

God bless America! ... and the preservation of our liberties!
