Wasn't there a Walmart employee that was killed in a stampede a few years back?
Seems like a dangerous place to be during the holidays. |

Guy was a thief. Beginning, middle & end of story. No sympathy from this quarter. Unwarranted force? Perhaps, but lets hear the "rest of the story" before we hang the employees.
Same thing coulda happened where I was yesterday...Macy's in Phila. A security guard I talked to said shoplifting was a HUGE problem. Place had more employees watching every move you made than you could shake a stick at. Market Street in Philly is different moonscape than a parling lot in DeKalb Cty GA. You make it out the door there, you get lost in the city crowd quickly. For the interested, some scenes you never see at WalMart. ![]() Opera Company of Philadelphia "Hallelujah!" Interesting. In the last Wallmart thread from a week or two ago I said that they prey upon the poor and got trampled by someone for saying that. I wonder if that would happen in this thread?
![]() The place is just another place to shop for most people. I rarely go there and shop at Mark's Work Warehouse for most of my clothes. At least the stuff they sell is quality made and it fits me. At 6'3'' and 260 lbs, most of the PRC stuff doesn't quite merasure up. ( pun intended ) |

If you're low income you go where the prices are low. Walmart provides that. Raising prices will put a greater burden on low income workers. Great plan.
I detect a strong smell of elitism in this thread -- looking down your middle class noses at people who can ill afford to shop at Macy's. |

We don't have a Macy's for at least one hours drive away. I try to do all my grocery shopping at WalMart although it is a 20 minute drive from my hometime.

To Walmart's credit (from a shareholder's perspective), they have managed to infiltrate all segments of the consumer market, including those niches typically enjoyed by the smaller retailer. One might argue these retailers failed because of their inability to adapt and remain competitive, and not because of Walmart's monopolistic control of the retail segment. However, from my observations, I don't believe these small retailers stood a chance against Walmart. I believe Walmart is a monopoly and intentionally enters new markets with dirt cheap products to put out the competition. They control every aspect of the retail business model, from the supply chain through to delivery channels, and they continue to expand into new sub-sectors of the consumer goods market. How they treat their employees is no coincidence either. Walmart is to poor folk what crack is to a junkie, and the employees are like street level dealers, easily replaced. The American people are the losers here. |
