Well based on their sales I guess most Americans just want a good deal on Chinese rubbish regardless of the cost to the US worker and manufacturing industries. What really bothers me is how the Walton's are fighting unions and raking in billions, while the American tax payer picks up the tab for the workers' bennies. I wouldn't be surprised if the Walton's pay a lower tax rate then their employees.

Seriously, they won't, but if they gave a 50% increase in compensation they would still have more employees eligible for public relief than any entity in history.

Outlaw Transfer Pricing (probably can't even find a realistic definition for that one anymore). Link tax breaks to Domestic Capital Investment.

Remind me what the issues were in the recent election.

People should read the history of such affairs since it is YOUR story. Include the history of the use of US military force against strikers, again, YOUR story.

From that perspective you could look at this as our being back in the days of The Company Store since so few people own virtually everything. Walmart - The Company Store.

No exaggeration. With that new Bluebird card WM's introducing with AMEX, their customers can direct deposit their paychecks.

Once every two weeks I'll visit the local Wally World around 11 PM - after all the idiots are gone - or around 1 AM when I get off work - and spend about $40 on the cheap preprocessed stuff they call food, to have enough to fix my work lunch for two weeks - beats wasting my money and eating the junk out of the vending machines or the road kill cafeteria at the plant, which is of even worse quality believe it or not.

And once every two months I'll buy a quart of Power Service and a quart of two stroke oil, for adding to the fuel tank on the Jeep diesel.

Other than that, I've got little use for them - anything resembling durable goods, I'll find another store with known quality items or order it off the web.

Only Wally World I had any real use for was in San Antonio - their Murphy fuel station actually carried diesel with some percentage of bio mixed in, best running diesel available within 10 miles of where I lived down there, so every two weeks or so I was filling up on their diesel - but not much else.

You cannot really live on that amount of income. In my part of Canada the minumin wage is ten fifty and you cannot really live on that either.

You might exist as just getting enough food etc to have the strength to go to work the next day. But that would be about it.

If the minumin wage is really 6.50-7.50 an hour in some states slavery has not been abolished yet. That is in relation to todays cost of living..

Nice to see north americas largest retail chain is continuing to prosper extremely well on the backs of the poor employees. Walmart destroys other competition that at least had the integrety to pay decent living wages usually

Minumin wages should always exceed or at least equal welfare rates. I am not sure how I could sleep well nights if I was a principal stockholder in the walmart empire getting perhaps two billion a year and watching the asset base being paid down fast. Plus employees struggling at 6.50-7.50 per hour to get by.

Thats if there was any debt outstanding . If not it should produce more sleep loss. We can call it capitalisim I guess but it is definatly lopsided. Or not quite what is expected in current values.

I often wondered if other than property taxes what did walmart ever do for communities they operate in? Any times the other business they forced out where no longer paying taxes so overall there was even less gain.

The jobs they create mean almost nothing unless the area is totally depressed. Commerce is supposed to be a two way street. Walmart has also seemed to have circumvented that even.

Why stop there? Minimum wage should equal the median income. That way we can all be middle class!

The minimum wage is already so low that it's more of a symbolic reminder that there used to be a minimum wage. I question the wisdom of those who want to abolish it, as opposed to raise it.

Think about what it means if you have people in your community whose income is so low that they can't meet reasonable living expenses. It means that their income will have to be subsidized by: relatives, gov't social services, charities, illegal activities, or they will starve. Most people are not moral enough to starve.

Even if you are gainfully employed by WalMart, you are still a parasite on society.

Fleet Farm is always cheaper than Wal Mart. Try your local farm supply.
