Does that include the 4% of innocent people sentenced to death or are you only 96% for the death penalty?

Somulose, widely used to put down horses and cattle is a combination of Secobarbital and Cinchocaine. The animal goes to sleep first and the heart is stopped in a few more minutes. I have seen it used on horses, sheep, goats and house pets. The two components have the same effect on humans. There's none but stupid reasons why human executions should be botched. We can't be using drugs designed for animals to humans? Gimme a break.

I guess it all depends on which side of the equation you are on. I suspect that a one here in favor of the death penalty a would change their tune if they or someone they knew were set to be executed for a crime of which they are innocent.

The saddest part of the story is that there seems to be more concern for the murderer than for the victim.

That is sort of the way it is done in Cuba. Everyone in Cuba is so in love with Fidel they want to do one last thing for him before they are shot, so they all donate blood to the point they are barely able to walk.

At least that's the way the Cuban Commies tell it.

There's the rub. The clear cut guilty cases, such as that of McVeigh, are not that common.

Whether or not someone SHOULD be executed by the state is unrelated to HOW they are executed.

Many states have the policy of the death penality. Personally, I don't have a problem with it as an option. Some people's crimes deserve harsh and permanent punishment, like the guy who was next in line in this particular case (who now has a stay of execution until they work out the drugs), who raped and murdered an 11 month old baby. Good riddance.

We are too hung up on the "its ok because its less nasty" view of lethal injection. How its done should have no bearing on why they got the maximum punishment in the first place.

Prisoners should have the choice of several traditional and inexpensive methods, hanging should be standard because its free to the state.

Seems weird but I gather that there's resistance to using drugs designed for animal euthanasia. Like it's not dignified for people to be killed with drugs used for animals. Go figure.

You see, there was once this country called England and they had these Colonies in this place known as 'The Americas'. There were lots of nasty people around that committed lots of nasty crimes and they were put to death in a lot of nasty ways. The theory was the punishment should fit the crime.

George Washington and Thomas Jefferson were totally opposed to these Royal methods of dealing with crime and when the time came to hash out the US Constitution the Founding Fathers put a little Amendment in there that outlawed cruel and unusual punishment. And then they declared that the US Constitution was the law of the land so no one could ever just make it up as they go along.

Which is what the state of Oklahoma did. And Oklahoma has its' own protocol for executions that was laid down by the lawmakers in OKC. Yeah, they ignored those, too, and one Republican lawmaker I talked to today is none to happy about it.

Our Governor, Mary Fallin, is as Tea Party as they come and she hit the roof over this Keystone Kops parade. Oklahoma already has a bad rep, which is well deserved, around the world. The last thing this place needs is worldwide attention to the fact that the place is in the hands of incompetents.

And...... I live just down the street from the prison and know a lot of the employees at the prison. They are not allowed to talk about what goes on in there, but I am under the impression that none of them are happy about how those in charge screwed this thing up.

And it is refreshing to see Conservatives keeping up their hate for the US Constitution by cheering on those that ignore it. Way to stick to those principals, guys!

Some people are confused about the situation in that they chose to think anyone that wants to stick to the rule of law in the state's exercising of its' most powerful control over our citizens is opposed to the death penalty. This is because they don't understand that we are a nation of laws and the Founding Fathers thought we should all work to keep it that way. The FF could foresee the day when evil people would ignore the law to satisfy themselves so they said 'This is what America is' in the Constitution.

This will have implications for years to come. For instance: One thing I heard today is that Gov. Fallin knows this is likely to kill any chance she ever had for a Federal position under a Republican President.

Well, at least some good will come of this mess.

Are you 100% sure that was the murderer or 96% sure? What if next week we find out that they killed an innocent man? Where would you concern swing at that point?

Actually lethal injection was introduced as a way to humanly kill the guilty. An Episcopal Priest suggested this after watching a few electric chair episodes in McAlester.

I have seen the actual chair and it does look like a gruesome way to go. The actual cause of death is burning and all the jolt does is cook you. Fire will shoot out of your fingertips and your brain catches on fire allowing massive amounts of smoke to escape from under the hood. The hood, by the way, is to keep the eyes from hitting the viewers since they explode and pop out of the head.

Pretty harsh on everyone concerned including those pulling the switch. Yeah, I've talked to that guy, too. He says it was just a job, but it was more like someone had to do it so he just manned up and did it. It sure wasn't something he looked forward to.

Even those that work on Death Row get depressed by the job. If that is your assignment then you only really work two days a week in H block. The other three days you sort of putter around doing odd jobs and decompressing from the two days of H block work. Remember: These Guards are spending two shifts with the sickest of the sick when it comes to evil and it is hard to not let that rub off on you when you come in contact with it day after day.

There is a chance here for Oklahoma to back up and look the whole thing over before going ahead and doing this correctly. We are in a position now to set the standard for the entire world on how to do this right. Will we? If the folks in OKC are smart, and there is no reason to think they are, we will.

There is no doubt this guy was guilty. The facts of the case are not in dispute by anyone including the killer.

But the saddest part of this is the total disregard for the rule of law by Conservatives who think the US Constitution is just a piece of paper. This sort of punishment is not allowed by law and so many people are willing to ignore this.

So what part of the Constitution will they want to ignore next?

Absolutely - one less murderer.

Hats off to OK and of course my home State, Texas, for strong death penalty laws!

So can we put you down as being on the side of, "The Constitution is just a piece of paper?"
