Like manufacturing, you get too expensive and we farm it out to a cheaper labor source. Pink slip for you.

Reasonable doubt should be much stricter. Seems like in some cases it is completely ignored. I think if there is any doubt what-so-ever then the death penalty or any penalty should not be allowed until that doubt is erased. Detectives are going to have to work their arses off to find as much evidence as possible.
I don't know what to think about the death penalty. Sometimes I feel that is the best option especially if the crime was especially heinous, but although I feel maybe they should suffer, I say we must follow the Constitution. I also see what countries like Norway do for "punishment" for criminals and supposedly that has a very high success rate, much lower percentage of repeat offenders than here. I agree that we should go with the cheapest method if it must be done, but also take out the human factor, or what was said before, have another death row inmate do it. It could perhaps be automated or maybe made more entertaining (for some) at the same time by having the inmate sit in a chair with a gun to his head while having to play a game like Flappy Bird and die when the bird dies so in the end the inmate is responsible for his or her own death. I would say that it if the death penalty must be used at a deterrent, public executions would be most effective. To me the death penalty is too complicated an issue for me to say whether or not I support it.

The title of the thread is "Botched Execution in Oklahoma" ... IMO it is a misnomer. It should or could say "Moderately Successful Execution in Oklahoma". It was successful in that Lockett's heart stopped beating. It was also moderate in that Lockett's pain and suffering was pretty quick and very minimal. Perhaps long, drawn out pain and suffering would or could be a measure of success as well ?

I am not conventionally religious, but don't be an *******. If you don't have a cogent argument, mocking beliefs just makes you look like an idiot...

So when do you think that the wrongful death lawsuit will be filed?

BUT, and the big but ... are there so many death row inmate(s) which are really wrongfully convicted of a capital offense ? Last edited by greazzer; 05-01-2014 at 10:03 AM. |

Why would the victim's family file a wrongful death suit ? Why would a vast, vast majority of victim's families file any wrongful death suits? The killers are most likely nothing but parasites on our society and their departures are less mouths to feed.

Further, are you suggesting that there was no news coverage of the crime, the investigation or trial of the victim? Pretty sure there was news coverage galore. So, what exactly was fault of the news media? |

As I think that you realize, I am inquiring about the inevitable wrongful death lawsuit regarding the inmate whose life was taken in a negligent manner.

If there is one thing everyone here in Oklahoma agrees on is that the guy deserved the death sentence. Something that people here don't agree on is was the way he was executed legal? There is a great deal of evidence that it was not. The state has laws about how this is to be done and from what I am hearing a lot of these laws were ignored. For people that think this is great the question is then what other laws do you think the state should ignore? Should the state call upon the IRS to spy on your group? That would be ignoring the law so are they good with that? |

The biggest confusion is between the state acting in a legal manner or not. If laws are on the books about how the state can execute someone and those laws are broken then the facts will bear this out. If we are good with the state just hauling off and killing people in any way they find fit then why not hunt the condemned for sport? This is one of the punishments the British King enjoyed handing out and is one of the reason our Constitution forbids cruel and unusual punishment. |
