Again 0-60 in one of these vintage diesels. Expect responses to be more along the lines of, "Yeah, it will do that".

Cold - about a mile, depending on the temperature (drive off in first when the temperature gauge starts to move, shift and go when it gets to operating temperature). Let's see, 1mi at about 6mph is 10min.
Warm - I think about 18-20sec. The book says 28sec for 0-62mph (100kph). Guess I don't drive by the book (get better mileage, too).

before I bought my benz it was taken to sears point.
1/4 mile in 25 seconds at 55 mph, 0-60 is higher, haha. Maybe there IS something wrong with it. -Nate

Just went out to adjust my ALDA tonight and holy CRAP what a difference
Did some tests with the wrist watch and a slightly inaccurate speedo (but compensated to my best ability) '81 300SD ~11.9 0-60MPH reasonably flat ground ALso it should be noted my beauty is near/past her 275K mi mark... |

11.9 on an SD sounds *way* fast... did you use a stopwatch? Borrow a friend's GPS to verify speedo accuracy... that can throw the times off by a second or two easily. I'd expect something more like 15.0 on an SD.

My 0-60 time is about 20 seconds but I have never actually timed it. My only diesel currently is a '92 ford f250 with a 7.3l normally aspirated non turbo'ed engine. As soon as I find & buy a turbo diesel wagon I'll post up another time.

0-60 acceleration
0-60 mph takes about 5 seconds. With better tires could be under 5 seconds.
Car is -92 S124 300 TD Turbo, with slight changes done. |

I used my wristwatch with a stopwatch on it to time it...fairly accurate I was hitting 11.8-12.2 or thereabouts on this road I was doing...averaged out the runs (I ran the road both ways multiple times) Its extremely peppy now that I adjusted the ALDA...runs 9psi boost currently as well. The only thing of weight in the car is a bag of sand in the back along with a tool kit. I started out with about 14.5-15.5 second 0-60's and got it down to, essentially, 12seconds... Engine was a bit warm after these of course...so that may hinde the speeds a little. One of the runs I did the defroster was on I forgot to shut it off and was like, "why did I just snag up 2 more seconds?" Also I weight about 145lbs...6'6" but 145...so not much driver weight. 0-60 in 7 - 8 seconds from my SDL.
http://www.ejzcars.com/!acceleration 8.mov Eh, whatever. I find my diesels have plenty of power to get me out of harm's way. from 0 - 130 mph, it's good enough for me. |
