Picked up in August - 86 SDL - was factory white with grey interior. I am in the process of turning it into a police car. It has 324k miles and a bunch of rust underbody.

My 300SDL

1986 300SDL with 267,000 miles. Midnight blue (but repainted to be non-metallic), gray shoddy interior. #14 head, lots of noise at idle (quiets when revved), replaced all lifters, removed fuel heater circuit, replaced delivery valve rings, EGR delete (thanks RollGuy!), extra brake light kit, cruise control repair, MAF removed, new rear shocks, fuel level sender reapirs. Trying to figure-out how to fix door panels (all upper tabs broken off).

87' 300SDL 190k+ miles on it. #14 head with one bent rod on #3 cylinder and a dented left front fender (snow plow ). Red with cream interior with almost no underbody rust. Going for the full engine rebuild as soon as I can.

Dang man, I want that one. Has 60K more miles but has a better history. Sounds goofy but I like those little chrome fender skirts. That's 300 miles away from me. Might look into it. Got to give this one some thought.

Yours is very nice. A little more than I can afford right now.

I can only imagine friends and family would think me nutty for wanting to buy a car with 300K. And I have to wonder if it really got 29 mpg recently. I never got that much with my 300SD and it's slightly smaller, though I gather that the 6 is a better engine than the 5.

Mine routinely gets 21-24ish in town. Although I have never taken it on a long trip, I imagine it would get close to 30 if not driven like it was stolen (the way I usually drive).

The hard part for me to figure is a 603 any kind of a good bet at 300K? It does look like an incredibly well maintained car. If a test drive yields the sort of good feel that might lend credence to the 29 MPG figure, that would be encouraging. If a head job was mostly what it would take for another 200 K, that would still be a decent investment I would think. Might not be a simple head job, there's a lot I don't know.
