I know you did not ask me, but I like to be a bit on the advanced side. For running veg oil I set them closer to 26.

Yeah I tried about 26 but it didn't work out too well, hence the timing is now as advanced as it would go.

Unless contraindicated by overwhelming evidence, my recommendation is to subscribe to the manufacturer's specifications.

I would run at 26 or 28, test for knocking, and reatrd the timing a degree or two if you get knocking. From what I've read most people can get away with 26, some can get away with 28. If it knocks at all retard the timing.

Well since the car seems to be running fine other than needing a motor mount and motor shocks and a new rack damper bolt I think it could probably be advanced more
