Italian cars as a whole don't have a reputation for reliability. By the 3rd generation the Alfa was better than the MG, but then again they weren't dealing with Lucas electrics. Alfa folks are doing rod bearings, rings and liners at 180k miles or less, OTOH, the job can be done with the engine in the car.
I love my 240D still, Im looking forward to finding a steering box for it.
