Agree 100%!

It is definitely worth spending time to find a good well maintained example.

You got that right, and even then deferred maintenance costs and breaking components can run into thousands. You can blink your eyes and be out over $500.00 on just parts replacement cost on these cars. If a handful of items have been neglected, you can easily be out a couple thousand $s or more getting it right.

But seriously, anyone that doesn't know the history of a 15 to 16 year old car located across the Country from you, are buying it from a non-major brand dealer's used car lot, don't get it 360 degree PDIed yourself/in person, may be buying $5K in deferred maintenance and impending break items on the car. A sub $10K car, with high mileage on it, becomes a $15K car upon ownership/usage of it. Unless you personally know the seller's reputation, it's extremely dicey.

The newest member of the CDI club

I am now accepting congratulations for being the newest member of th CDI club. Last night I picked up the car at my local truck stop. The transporter brought it from a dealer in Ohio where I bought the car from. I wanted to accept the car somewhere where there would be light enough to inspect it. It arrived safe with no damage, other than being filthy from the trip here in an open car carrier. Once I get it insured and cleaned up, I will post some photos. I rate the condition of the interior and exterior of the car at least a 9 out of 10. The chassis is great as well, with no visible rust. The drivetrain is a different story. It does have a check engine light illuminated, an has a case of Black Death. However, I got such a great price on the car, I can afford to fix it and still be ahead. The car has had two previous owners, and seems to be well cared for. I do have on question. What computer for checking the fault codes on this car would be the best value? I am willing to invest in the equipment needed to properly service this car. I will be ordering up the parts to repair the Black Death. I am excited, as just driving the car for the ten miles from the truck stop to home was wonderful!........Rich

Congrats on your purchase!

You might want to look at the iCarSoft MB II, which is what I got. It has a lot of functionality and is about $160. The next step up would be a SDS clone, which I think would set you back about $900.

I looked several places, and they are almost all going for $160. I found one on the well known auction site for $160 with free shipping and no tax. I could have gotten one in CA, but would have to pay tax.

I got mine from an eBay seller. Any of the eBay sellers with a high rating I'm sure would be fine.

Beautiful Colors

The Exterior is the Champagne Gold-ish
(Don't know the MB # for it)
It doesn't show Dirt as badly as any other color.

How are you planning to "Reparatur" the Black Death ?

Zome are hunting down Honda's Metallic sealing rings to use as they are
of a more "Malleable" compound/alloy.

As well as installing "Time-serts" for the injector securing bolts in the alloy
head.

I have all the parts, and have reviewed several YouTube videos. I will be using oven cleaner to remove the black sludge, I hear it works best. I will start a thread, and post the progress......Rich
