The Tail housing piece..You just take the bolts off..And then I gave it a small rap with a plastic head hammer and it just fell off..There was no loose parts that go pling as you drop of the Tail piece..So that was easy..

Okay, Now it starts to get a little heavy..

The parking cog #73 just slides off the output shaft..Next there is some spacer shims..I had 2..One is broken..I know what your thinking!!

Those spacer rings are used to set up the thrust of the output shaft..I will get back to this later when I am putting it back together..

The arm that engages the parking cog is next..It just slides off the shaft with the spring that holds it out of park when a gear is selected..

Again a missing part..The #67 spacer ring..Wasn't there..

So the last picture shows these 3 parts..The cog, arm and spring

This yellow thingy just pulls straight out..# 80 is the part number..

Then you have this thick steel wheel #81 that just is slid off the shaft ..It's easy

Time to take the governor out..The cover lid has to come off first.

There is no pressure on this lid, at least for me there wasn't..I just poked a screwdriver in and unsnapped the lock ring and then lifted the lid of with that welded bracket on the lid..O ring was there for once!!

On the first picture there is that yellow thingy..That is what holds the governor in it's location..You just reach in there and it unclicks it self from the shaft of the governor..
After it is swung away you just reach in to the side where I removed the cap in the previous post and pull out the governor..It comes out whole with no loose parts..

There is an oiler tube that squirts oil at the drive gear on the output shaft and the driven gear of the governor..That comes out easy..no oil ring to worry about..It was not made for one..The tube keeps the gears wet with oil

Now out comes the driver gear that is on the output shaft..It slides right out too after you give it a tug to release it from the ring that hold it in place..The gear just kind of pops off the ring..No troubles..

Then you just reach in and get the ring off..

I found the 2 manuals from other forums about mercedes and I think that most of the stuff that I down loaded was from you!!..

I have gathered all sorts of pictures..exploded views..everything that I can dig up..

Here is the front cover page to the manual that I printed out..Something like 153 pages..

When it comes to the progress of all this, I am actually about 2 weeks ahead..
Something like 150 photos of the tear down already..I just need to get them up and detail the fine points of the tear down..

I will be posting a lot of pictures tonight

The camera takes about a 3 meg shot using SR (scene recognition)..Then I bring it into a program called Paint.net..Not MS Paint..Paint.net has a resizer to it..just punch in the numbers and it does it..
I'm glad you've got the books - they will be needed!

I must say the condition of this transmission you are taking to bits looks incredibly clean - keep the pictures coming

I did this earlier in the tear down. Removing the valve body..it has 15 bolts..3 of them are gold colored, show on the right..the other 12 are black and slightly longer..

Loosened all of them and then lifted the valve body out like a heavy book..You want to lift it whole as there is 2 halves to this and you don't want to open it up yet and till you are ready..

I just set the Valve Body in a box and will work on it later..

Another part that I took off earlier..The solenoid kick down valve..

Just unscrew it and the black piece and actual valve is off..The sealing ring goes between the tranny case and the black solenoid..

The shifter arm and neutral safety switch..

You need to take the bolt that pinches the arm on the selector shaft completely off..The selector shaft has a notch in it and you have to remove the bolt because of that notch..

The safety switch..just 2 bolts and it is off

The selector click click click thingy..

One bolt and you take it off

The pin that helps hold the thingy in place cannot come out till you remove that flat plate that is sandwiched between the case and the valve body..Once that plate is off (I am getting to it) then you can pull the pin out..
