My father friend had a Toyota Camrey (a 98 model year) with 298K on it. Yes 298 K.....the car was a company car and salesmen drove it. Despite the milage the car was new, and the interior was in great shape etc. Milage cannot judge a car, its years of service do. You're Benz served for 14 years, the Lexus for only 7 years.

with a clear non-pesimistic mind, I have come to the following conclusion. when Chryslers are going to use M-B parts, that will only increase Chrysler quality, not will not hamper M-B qulality. I sure do hope the new E-Class coming out is of higher quality though.

The only person or entity that you hurt by not buying a Mercedes is yourself. I find your comments to be short-sighted, bigoted, prejudicial, and lacking in any factual reference.

Having owned many of both I am here to say a guy is lucky to drive either. I love my ol' wagon I am buying a new one this week or an ML. I would get a new IS 300 but family issues make that not to practical. MB and Lexus dollar for dollar can take the Pepsi challenge to any other make and be the top two. thats my rant time for Sopranos.

Mercedes vs. Lexus

Well, I sometimes wish I was a rich man when I go back and look at all the wonderful models Mercedes has made. I think I would have at least a 10 car garage ! Alas, I drive a 13 year old 300E because I like the overall style of the car. Mercedes speak quality because they are the official makers of the first car. There is, in my opinion, an undeniable feel of quality about the car. This feel speaks exquisiteness, and pride in a car that has been around so long. I think this definitely speaks a great deal about the driver. I have nothing against Lexus, or their owners. I only hope that present day MB's will carry on the quality and fineness regardless of competition.

Its all in the RIDE and the way the babes lookatya when you arrive!

Remember the Datsun slogan:
Drive a datsun and then decide.

Well drive an MB then decide. Ride both makes (comparative) and then get the one that feels right.

For me the MB just does it. Rode in a 430 and then a comparable S and the S felt sooo much better (Company leases same allowance!) Both rides were over the same basic roads most of the way. Frankly I wouldn't turn down a Lex but if I am buying or have a choice, its an MB!

Personally I'd love to have seen the Citroen (sp) make it big in this market back in the 60s and 70s onwards. Man they are some great cars, I kinda have a weak spot for the Cetroens (Love the Dsl, suspension, shape, interior and the performance was not too shabby either). To keep the rust off and the things working right well ow you say BIG MULA and PARKIT time. Enter the MB.

ave a great day

I'm sure that some day they will, but of course, I might as well just buy the Chrysler version instead.
Then why are you here?

Driving a Lexus involves about as much thrill and personality as using a washing machine. It does the job it's built for, but nothing more. It's a Toyota playing "dress-up", trying to look like it's in the same league as a Mercedes.

Over the years with inflation and everything mercedes have kept their cars about the same price, however lexus, etc have dramatically increased their prices. So you cant really compair them anymore because if mercedes raised their prices as much as lexus respectively you would be into Maybach cars by now.

There is just something about looking up at the window glass in your lexus and seeing toyota. Man that would really piss me off.

I like to get in my mercedes and see Sigla then Mercedes star, or Sekurit and then the mercedes star, it makes me feel at home.

Just a thought,

does anyone think that you will see a Lexus at the
Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in say 30 years, 40 years, 50 years?

when I'm in europe i see all these Lexus but they have toyota logo's on them. I wish i could remember. but they are IDENTICAL to the Lexus we have, just with a symbol swap and name swap.

ive also noticed the Lexus here have toyota written in the windows. yea lexus are nice, reliable, and everything but why not just buy a high end toyota for 10's of thousands less if it is the same thing.

What we seem to get in Europe (or, at least, the UK) is, when a new Lexus comes out, magazines rave about how awesome it is, and teaches Mercedes lessons about this that and the other.

Then, within 6 months, the car seems to be completely forgotten. If it is 'revisited' again, it gets at best lukewarm reviews. It seems they start to see the Lexus for what it is when it's been around a while - which is not crap, but exceedingly bland.

And in Europe, bland just doesn't cut it.

later

Russ

P.S. This all excludes the Lexus SC. This was universally hated right from the beginning.
