My mistake that was not directed to you. My thoughts towards you and your postings need to remain to myself as I do not want to be banned.

Its an open forum, by all means go ahead and spew your thoughts. Others have and still continue to do so.

First off, I'll state this: I served in IRAQ for a 1-year tour. I feel that I may very well be better informed than most on this subject. I am NOT saying that I am, just may be. I am Military Police, which means I ran humanitarian mission security, convoy escorts and EPW operations as well as prisoner transport.

No, I don't think so. There's a job to do, and I've volunteered to do what is my country requests of me. All that matters is that we are there, and we will stay until the job is done.

Chas, correct me if I'm wrong, but you come across as a Bush hater. You state that you are a Vietnam Vet, awesome. What exactly did you do, and how long was your tour in Vietnam? I'm just curious. Several of your statements concern me though:

Others have claimed the the increase is statisically insignificant. From your figures it's apparent that desertions took a jump right around the time W was elected.
Yes, desertions have increased...I CAN READ. Didn't I provide the data? Or? There is no "or." Desertions have increased AND we are better off. If I can trust my buddies 100% at all times and NEVER have to worry about them disappearing on me, we can all complete our missions, faster, safer and more efficiently. I don't want to hear any PFC Lynch-isms "I just joined for the college money." Wah wah wah,

I see no reason for a comparison between GB's election and the spike in desertions. You see the spike took place in FY2000 right? That's Oct 1 1999 to Sep 30, 2000.

And this is because YOU have been there, and can confirm that what he says is true or not? You have been to Vietnam, not Iraq right? The soldiers that I spoke to that have been to both said that they are very different.

What exactly is that supposed to mean? Do you know of a person better suited to wage war? Just because someone may have been to a war doesn't mean they know how to lead.

I know many persons better suited to waging war, and all of them think invading Iraq was a mistake. The list starts with GHW Bush.

Glad to see the topic is back online despite the pathetic attempts by two trolls to divert it.

From what I have been hearing/reading the situation in Iraq is improving.

How much control does the president have over military operations?

You mean the Commander-in- Chief? AKA the President.

Yeah does he get into the micro stuff? IE move this division into the city here, or the macro stuff? How micro does the President usualy get in military operations?

How much of the war is President Bush waging?

I'll leave the tired old debate of whether we should be their or not for another thread, sadly the dice have been cast and we now need to play our hand.

I ask because I am reading some very detailed material on how the German OKH, and OKW worked, with the party, or against the party depending on how you view it. I have not studied how the US works in this area. But the failure of certain military operations can be traced back to the party, mainly Hitler. However he was a micro manager, and enjoyed playing General. I'm wondering does an American President usualy get that micro?

Okay, so all the people that were riding Uncle Sam for a paycheck jumped ship in 2001 when they found out they might have to actually do some work...and now that we've got the lowest standards and the highest bonuses ever...we're seeing similar numbers and this is news?

And for those of you that are ultra critical of how things are being run...what are you doing to make change? Are you serving your country, or just acting e-smart and complaining about this online?
Maybe GURKA can serve.........?

The desertions are going to break GURKA-the Leftist's Hire a "Homeless" Vet campaign! What's up with that deal, anyway........?

We're not, and we are.

Why do you take it personally and start a flag waving Star Spangled Banner tirade? These are issues to be concerned about and discussed, last time I checked, this was a forums. All kinds of pressing issues social or otherwise gets posted here and why did you bring in India anyway, is it because I am Indian?

And, like, your sig says "India" on it. I assume(silly me) that means you either live there, are from there, or favor it there.

This post is certainly not about US bashing, its about a situation facing US currently. I am Indian by origin and l live in US and am a US citizen. I also live in India for a month or so due to business reasons.

Well, anyway, sorry Ghurka. I'll step out of your thread now. I guess I just had to vent, and you were the unfortunate victim. Nothing personal against you. I actually think you're ok. I just had an ********* moment. I feel better now.

I don't agree with many of your other points but you are spot on IMO, I can't stand the cheerleaders myself unfortunately like any other war the proponents will not put their own children in harms way .

I would like to see the rest of the data, how many of these are reservists? I think there is more to the story.
