Expressing cultural differences between regions of the US isn't bigotry. The ideal situation would be where gun laws were as permissive as in VT, but people wouldn't feel the damn need to carry everywhere.

Yeah, all black people like fried chicken, water melon, and can dance.

It's culture, not bigotry.

Got it.

More people regularly carry in Southern and Western states than in VT, NH, and ME, which have permissive gun laws as well. Those states also have very low incidence of gun murder compared to other permissive states (Idaho excepted):

Gun violence in the United States by state - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (sort by gun murders per 100,000 people)

Statistics aren't prejudice. Stop being so touchy.

He was within his legal right to carry a weapon and use deadly force if his life was in danger so that's a different argument.

We all understand that GZ would have probably never approached TVM had he not been armed. Had TVM been a fat and 5'7" tall (like GZ), he probably wouldn't have taken a running jump at beating 7 bells of ***** out of someone he didn't know, so the 'victim' has some responsibility.

A little bit of perspective: I grew up in London where guns don't really exist and are never considered in these types of confrontations. I went to school in not the best area and muggings were very common.

In most cases, muggers get away because police can't be everywhere and they pick victims that are not capable of putting up a fight.

One of my first observations when moving to the US is that this kind of street intimidation doesn't really exist. I can't help but attribute this to the fact that anyone young or old, frail or strong can carry concealed.

This is a tragedy, and that boys life was wasted. But let's not kid ourselves in thinking that a society without guns won't have it's own set of problems.

Pardon me do you live in this country or century? If you are male or female and you insult another person and they "bruise your face" they will end up in jail and hopefully for a couple months. We don't live in the dark ages anymore.

Criminal asshattery. Dude is a puke, the butt-ugly boy for the year. I'll give him this, he's the perfect poster boy for the 'my gun gives me wood' contingent, well represented in our land today.
Would you like our society to not put people in jail for assault and battery? Is it your belief that if you are physically bigger and therefore not a "wimp or wuss" you can attack someone and not have repercussions?

Your "clueless" comment shows you are angry and making it personal. Not a good combination for clear thinking, as your post shows.

I did not say you marched and burned things- but if you watched the news it did happen. It happened because people had about as much information about the facts of the case as you did...

At least I don't opine my views when I don't know the facts; and PC has made more ridiculous statements in the last 24 hours than my nearly 10 years here. And those are just the statements I can see when other quote him.

And I enjoyed your reaction to them.

So, when you projected an array of unflattering characteristics to Kerry when all he stated was that he wanted to buy a used Suburban to tow a sailboat, that opinion was solidly based on facts that you knew about Kerry, correct?

In case you've forgotten, your foam-flecked rant starts on post #25: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/open-discussion/337798-suburban-diesels-2.html

Now that this distasteful matter has been handled, back to the topic.

Seems that the dust is settling on this whole unfortunate matter: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/07/15/us/justice-department-to-restart-hate-crime-investigation-in-trayvon-martins-death.html?hp&_r=0

I'd like to see a demonstration of an average 5' 11 seventeen year old weighing 158# shaking a mature man weighing (what do you guess?) 230#. If I had been the prosecutor I would have been on that like ugly on ape.

I am still not buying that the kid could have killed Z that way....not even if their physical sizes had been reversed.
Walgamuth,

A serious question:

Did you even follow the trial? The facts, AND the evidence presented at trial?

Couldn't convict on the original charge so beef one up.

No double jeopardy indeed.
