What is the HP, 500SEC euro?

I would, if I were you be curious about this kind of thing.

For example:

1986 - 1987 560SEC

ECE: 300 hp, 10.0:1 ...................... Build Code: 822

RUF: 272 hp, 9.0:1

KAT: 242 hp, 9:0:1

USA: 238 hp, 9.0:1 .................... 0-60 mph: 7.1 seconds

560 SEC ..... ECE>RUF>KAT>USA

Euro ECE the very best of them but AMG 560SEC > everything.

*********************************

What are the figures for 500SEC versions. I can't find them

I heard 500SEC Euro, the HP on them is probably = or slightly > 560 SEC USA
Maybe about 240 HP

500SEC EURO Federalized and Smogged as legal gray market car with EGR and Catalyst, put on as required by DOT/EPA. What is HP and compression on one of them??

1982-1983 Mercedes 380SEC, USA version = only 155 hp

woof, woof

Exclamation hood pad install

Print that out and take to body shop. Get a quote

Probably lots of really good body shops in the SFV with good Mexican employees who would do a good job of it for cheap.

buy hood pad off ebay

It is too much work to scrape off all old adhesive, mask and prep.
Not a job for amateur

(In my opinion)

unless you are a real expert at this and very confident

It's too much
don't have a private garage where I can work a few hours a day
Also the hood is high & I am low...
Also the garage is not really for body work
sure the adhesive smells
I make a mistake & $100 down the drain

Have to find places that do it
get quotes
but its better topay a lil more & get a good job
rather than a botch & possibly risk damage to car & paint

Most important
cool engine
wheel locks
then hood
oooh license bracket

I tried

Mulholland looks ike it could be treacherous
Probably scenic though
when I hot the temp under control

Night

Wise decision about the hood pad. Probably the best hood pad install would involve actually removing the hood from the car, and carefully laying it on a carpet or blanket that was on a large plywood, across two sawhorses, or a flat work area.

Well organized priorities, you have First the big things, for the for the car and then the other stuff later, as time & budget permits.

I would say it now appears, your car lacks little , to be a good runner.

A good example of one, in a rare color. An excellent price for a good one.

Here is a link to the question about the HP/Compression
on the '83 that was asked for you. Nothing conclusive so far:

Interesting
Thanks for asking.

I think I tried to join there but they never replied...

If all the 500 SEC's were same then Euro & US engines should be identical.

I'd like to know but I need to spend most of my energy on getting it to run cooler before it cooks its engine

Yeah, for sure; if the engine gets cooked, then YOU are cooked.

Maybe a good reverse flush, new coolant & hoses would not be a lousy idea at all.

If it is the original radiator, on the car, it honestly might be time for another.
I still am not sure whether the radiators are different on Euro cars, but as I said, they might be, I saw a box for a '84 (?) 190E radiator, marked "Euro car" once, in a radiator shop in SF - I don't know

Good Mercedes Benz yellow coolant running though a new radiator and hoses might have you running cooler, and for sure would give you peace of mind.

That is a good thing.

But I would guess you are still OK to go places this weekend, normal driving and so on. No long trips or anything if it were me. There are lots of things to do around there locally. Even the beach is nearby but probably crowded.

It's not a good weekend to do toomuch
Part shops perhaps closed.

I could also try to call or better yet go to Siler Star motors in Thousand Oaks.
Maybe they did the service on it all its life
Then they would have records for it hopefully.

Hopefully next week I may get a reply to my inquiry to the owner.

I don't want to change coolant
only to find its a radiator or pump
then have to do it again.

I suppose foir idle 15 minutes the 100 wasn't horrible.
But it did go to I;d say 115 the day before after the 10 miles from Enriques.
It was getting near the danger zone.

I'd say service wise this car hadn't has much in last 4 to maybe even more years w service only to get it to pass smog which it seems to fail alot

So, have to find a nice place to get the poor thing out on the road for a spell...

Have a great weekend...

Beach is more than 10 miles.

Couple more leads possibly on service stations?

Funny it came up as a 380 once & a 84
probably because there was no 83 500 SEC in system?

Hey, How did I miss this last night?
It wasn't here...

240 is pretty good compared to 155
guess that is net
I know the older cars used bhp
Thanks for the early BD greeting
Its the last day of Sept so I got a few more days...
LOL

Guess the 380 SEC is a woof woof
compared to the 500 SEC
but its not a bad daily hauler
& might get better mileage
but its a heavy car!!!!

Saw federal creeping up in threads
Don't know the difference....

Thanks again...Interesting

Cal smog and Mercedes Dealer in Thousand Oaks

I doubt the smog test stations would remember the particular cars they simply get too many of them in over the years to test.

Your car was a Euro and so, it is often harder to get them to pass smog, they run faster but dirtier than their US spec counterparts, and the LA smog test is VERY stringent, it is really tough to pass. That is why there would be more "fails", pretests at the "test only" facilities, and retests

It is just that simple. But they do finally make it, so don't worry about it.

My US spec. 560SEC always breezed through the smog tests, every time, sometimes almost with a perfect reading. But the price for that is a slower car than the equivalent Euro......

The service maintenance record book stamps for my '91 showed it had been serviced at Silver Star Mercedes Benz three times, all probably in 1991, past 15,000 miles - perhaps the first owner lived or worked near there.

So, five years later, I went there (in 1996) and asked them about the car. But maybe it had never been back since 1991. They said they had no records at all for that car.

Many Mercedes dealers ONLY keep the records for three years or so then purge them. ESPECIALLY if the car never comes back though.

But I would go there anyhow, -- it never hurts to ask. If you are lucky they will have records, especially if the car was always maintained and servicedd there. But the records are their private property, and they don't have to show them. I wish you good luck in the quewst for history. Always great when you get some good results...

Odd chance maybe they serviced all its life
then they should be able to say what it had I would think
but then again if you are right its not a good service shop
They should keep records of what they did
can't alwasy rely on a owner to remember

thought some of the earlier names were a service station
before the somog only requirements?

just a thought
any lead is good.

Hey what about the fan
how can I tell if something is a miss
The blade seemed to rotate wo resistance
is that bad?
It was turning at idle
so not sure how much its affecting oil temp

also there is a open metal flex tube on pass side engine
doesn;t go anywhere
You think its a smog thing?

Write to Germany as I suggested and get the factory build sheet. Perhaps there is a code number or description of WHICH euro engine the car had - to figure out the HP on it.

The information is very extensive, and the reports are free for the asking. Likely it will describe what smog controls for the German market that year, it had. It will give you the engine number for sure.

The address I gave you may be "stale"though, it was about 7 years ago.

IN a way you can forgive the strict LA smog test standards. I assume you came out here from New York or somewhere, so you miight not know too much about how bad it used to be before the smog tests got really going.

I've been there a few times. You should have seen the place in about 1970.
From the Hollywood Hills looking out over the city, it loked positively, brown, it was terrible. Your eyes would sting and water from it. All of it from the cars It is somewhat cleaner now.

I doubt your little bird would've fared well at all back then. The LA air was really horrible at the time. It's not that bad now at all, compared to what is was.
