After my bro asked me about it, I thought that OM601,2,3 parts might work being serpentine. I will tell him that this is already in the works, and no need for me to compete

The Sleeper is going under the knife on Monday. Finally addressing the rear end rot and rust. After this gets fixed, the real and only issue are the floors. (Doors are easy to swap out). Right now, completely rust free front clip (excluding a hole under the battery tray and from the C-pillar back will be rust free too.

Nice, about perfect patch panel from RidgeRunner ... And Adam on the plasma cutter.

And a little progress on a few R&D projects.

Double pulley system on the NA 617.912 engine is a complete go and success. Had to install new water pump and installed smaller pulley thanks to DeliveryValve. Even sitting in traffic with 102F temps, the ol' girl never budged over 80C.

Once I find a double tensioner pulley (idler), I can hook-up ROLLGUYS A/C kit, which spits out 40F air even in the worst heat which sunny South Carolina can dish out.

Like a high maintenance woman ... lol One likes the look, others like to look, but always some work and maintenance to keep up the shine. It does make the engine pop since all aluminum pieces now look like chrome. Just need to polish every two weeks or so, but it's OK for the 20 or so minutes.

Maybe you could coat it. I'd love that look in my Studebenzer truck.

I ended up being really pleasantly surprised so far with a dye product for rubber. Even the color was pretty close. So far, the exterior plastic dye has held up and now the exterior rubber dye may be a winner too.

The rubber end pieces are going on tomorrow (they go with 3-piece Euro front bumper) and the mesh head light grill covers. I got the CIBIs or their knock offs (Hella's), need to double check since once the car comes back from the body shop, they are going in too. That was a JY score.

The wire mesh headlight grills are supposed to be an uber rare MB option. I can say they are incredibly well built. I have never seen them since I started tinkering with MBs circa 2008 until April of this year.

The dye was about impossible to remove. I had a very feint run so I had to sand it off, a very tiny area about the size of a quarter. The stuff is incredibly thin and will have runs and drips if not super careful. However, zero cracks or flaking so far, but time will tell. Those rubber pieces went through the flex test and it held up perfectly.

So, all the black rubber pieces, et cet may end up being dyed to match the body color. Even debating going with a more sexy color once all the rust and damage issues are gone with a re-spray down the road. Front clip is done, rust free. Rear area from rear door dogleg back is now rust free.

...
That's a nice looking pulley! And faster turning water pump to boot!

Wire Head Light Grills and Rear Quarter Panel Repairs

Car is back from under the knife. Very pleased with my $500 investment in body work. Got rid of the nasty rusty lower quarter panel on driver's side. Looks about perfect. A few other issues were fixed including the front bumper and AMG air damm. Everything lines up perfectly now.

The head light wire mesh grills are much better than expected since I thought they were going to be a little gaudy or overpowering. However, they ended up being OK. I like them. They hide my flat headlights ...lol

Got the correct lug bolts today, and tried fitting on the AMG 15" rims and tires (period correct ones). Now, the hard part of deciding which finish to go with:

1. Chrome
2. Traditional black & silver powder coat
3. Silver/grey powder coat
4. Color matching with silver grey outline.

I think I have already ruled out #1 ...

Took a while to get a set, but well worth it. I really like the new tires, and the rims give the car a totally different look.

Engine Time

One vote for all silver/grey. My wife still thinks your car is one of the best MBs she's seen. Hmmm....

Engine on stand, short block. Head going on shortly, need to source new "hidden bolts". Engine looks tiny when all the stuff is stripped off it.

Maybe non-OEM head gasket to lower compression a smidge. Still working towards drivetrain to be done and installed by Christmas.

Silver grey looks nice. The Chrome looks sharp also, but might be high maintenance.

I just can't get used to the black....
